The Pittsburgh Penguins are the only ones standing between the Sharks and their first-ever Stanley Cup championship.
The Penguins advanced to the NHLs final round with a Game 7 win over the Lightning on Thursday night at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, 2-1.
They will have home ice advantage, beginning with Game 1 in the Steel City on Monday.
The full schedule is as follows:
GAME 1: Monday, Pittsburgh
GAME 2: Wednesday, Pittsburgh
Thieves Steal 'Numerous' Guns in San Carlos
GAME 3: June 4, San Jose
GAME 4: June 6, San Jose
GAME 5: June 9, Pittsburgh (If necessary)
GAME 6: June 12, San Jose (If necessary)
GAME 7: June 15, Pittsburgh (If necessary)
The Sharks and Penguins split their two-game season series. San Jose won in Pittsburgh on Nov. 21, 3-1, while the Penguins returned the favor at SAP Center just 10 days later on Dec. 1, 5-1.
The Sharks had won 10 straight home games over the Penguins before the most recent meeting. They own a 17-3-3 record against them in the last 23 head-to-head matchups overall. San Jose eliminated the Kings, Predators and Blues in advancing to the first Stanley Cup Final in its 25-year history. The Penguins got past the Rangers and Capitals before beating the Lightning.
I’ll take the Sharks in 6.
I can remember reading an interview with Frank Mahovlich in which he said that he remembered when Montreal played Chicago in the 1971 finals and that series went to May 18th, he thought at the time that it went too far into the spring/very early summer, lol.
Back in the days of the Original Six (until 1967), the playoffs were done by Mother’s Day.
Sharks eat Penguins, don’t they?
Don’t sharks eat penguins?
Should be a great Cup series! Im rooting for the Sharks!
Sharks have teeth. But then again, penguins breathe air. The flashiest accessories aren’t always the deciding factor.
Me too!
The Finals will be a hot ticket, but it’s not to late to get good seats for “Thieves Steal ‘Numerous’ Guns in San Carlos”.
1970: Bobby Orr’s OT goal gave the Boston Bruins the Stanley Cup on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10.
Now it extends into June.
Baseball’s World Series used to wrap up by late Sep. or early Oct (before all the playoff rounds), now a couple times it’s gone into Nov. I believe
One time I was in Montreal in June; the hockey season had ended but the NHL awards were being presented (actually it was probably in Toronto but local Mont. media all over it).
Hockey in June, at least the awards...
If sports teams cannot keep the names of Indians or the fed gov cannot use words like Negro, then the Pittsburgh Penguins cannot use the word penguin because it’s disrespectful towards nuns.
Game 2.5 sounds interesting, there - what channel will it be on?
Saw the headline, don’t watch hockey, and thought this was going to occur somewhere in nature. Penguins wouldn’t be much of a match for a shark, though.
I have 3 grandkids in grade school who play hockey. A girl and two boys. I love the playoffs.
I take the penguins in 7
I DO watch hockey, although my attention has waned since the Blackhawks lost out, but anyway I had the same reaction ... Whaaaaaa ?????
I used to have a nice bushy red beard too.. Now it’s gray.
Go Sharks!!! Light em up, Boys!!!
If only the Gunds were alive to see it happen.
Hate the pens and how crosby embelishes penalties.
Go Sharks.
Game 7 : June 15?
Hey, you drank warm beer in Nam, suck it up. Or get the puck out of here. ;-)
