I do believe Ted has thrown his career away over the past several months...

Do you mean his senate career - getting reelected? I don’t know why a number of freepers contend that Cruz won’t get reelected senator in Texas. The people that do this simply don’t comprehend the dynamics in state elections. First, it’s very hard to unseat an incumbent. Second, it depends on the quality of the competition. Third, if the candidate is supported by the highest state office holders who are popular, they will propel their candidate to victory.

Regarding the quality of the competition...Most business owners trying to turn politician are not like Trump. They are not used to the media and don’t know how to use it, haven’t formulated their positions beyond not liking the guy in office, have little money or ideas on how to run a campaign. A lot of them have only recently considered entering the political realm, some on the spur of the moment. These candidates don’t come across as very knowledgeable, confident and articulate, regardless of their abilities. Perception is everything. Dave Brat was also an exception. So in order for an incumbent to be Cantorized, there must be a strong competitor.

There wasn’t a Dave Brat running against John Cornyn in his senate primary and unless there is such a competitor running against Ted Cruz, he will likewise be reelected.

Dewhurst could give Cruz a run, if he chose to.

Cruz held Dewhurst under 50 in that Senate election, forcing the run off that nobody came to, except the religiously political religious Right. Cruz won that run off with 4% of the Republican vote, I read.

Off that 4% he launched a presidential run the next day.

What a guy. He used that Senate seat as only a springboard stop. Doubt he even likes that job.
