I saw a guy a couple of years ago helping a snapper out of the road. I wanted to say “Stop...don’t do it!!”
That turtle stretched out his neck and latched on to the guy’s arm and wouldn’t let go.
Poor guy.
Those things can move faster than you’d think, too. I nearly hit a huge snapping turtle driving one night, I honesty thought a stump had fallen off a truck or something at first. The red eyes shining in the headlights were the only reason I knew what it was. Turned the car around to get a better look, maybe get a picture, and it was gone. In less than a minute.
I have stopped to help snappers across the road, but I have pushed them along with a lacrosse stick once and with long stick the other time.
