The world's biggest-ever cruise ship, the 227,000-tonne Harmony of the Seas, a luxury home on the waves for 8,500 passengers and crew, was handed over by a French shipyard on Thursday after a 40-month engineering feat. At 218ft, it is the widest cruise ship ever built, while its 1,187ft length makes it 164ft longer than the height of the Eiffel Tower. The immense floating town, which cost close to one billion euros (£800 million), has 18 decks and will be able to carry 6,360 passengers and 2,100 crew members.

These newer massive cruise ships look so top heavy.

Plucked straight from the "meaningless analogies" department.

Just how well does the Eiffel Tower float, anyway?

With the “as in the days of Noah” times we live in. . .no guarantee this boat will stay afloat.

Yea, a simple WWII technology torpedo or two launched from a freighter could put it in the briny deep.

From one perspective, it may look that way, but they wouldn't build it if it couldn't float. :)
What I find creepy is having a ten-story slide called "Ultimate Abyss."

It was a comparison in length not in floatability.

Because they didn't want it in the yard on Friday the 13th!

I love big ships, but this is approaching ridiculous. And frankly, I think the cruise industry has jumped the shark. I suspect the magnates are banking on a lot of retirees having leisure time and discretionary income so they can take that cruise they've always put off. But with the economy in the tank, that may be a risky bet.

With the deaths, diseases, and disasters that have plagued the industry in recent years, along with the threat of terrorism aboard a confined -- and highly vulnerable space -- I would think twice about booking a cruise.

But I've already been on a couple, so the novelty is gone.

They are located at the outer railing, and the ocean is the bowl.

The ship is not as massive as it looks. It is mostly hollow on the inside, because the upper decks are really like two buildings with a space between. This open space in the middle is where the large parklike spaces and big auditoriums are located.

Been there, done that, never again.

I keep hearing Titanic II resonating in my head for some reason. It’s a ship only the DemoRat fraudsters / non-middle class will be able to afford to take a cruise on. And are all the gubmint funded global warming scientists taking into account the massive tons of water displacement all these huge chunks of metal are having on our seas when they calculate sea levels (remember they’re not ice which won’t change the water level).
