I'm getting the new car bug myself - currently driving Acura and they have become totally boring in the styling.

I've always appreciated German engineering but always found the body styling of ALL German cars to be boring and ugly.

That said, the new Mercedes C300 COUPE looks a bit better and somewhat interesting.

I REALLY like the new NSX but a tad too pricey and totally impractical for me.

Hey if 150 grand is only a “tad” too high, you’re doing pretty well!

Jaguar XKE

My father HAD a pale primrose yellow Jaguar XKE V-12 (required 102 octane leaded gas) when I was sixteen, but he wouldn't let me drive it.

If you were like me at 16, your dad made a wise decision and saved your life!

Jaguar XKE

Amen! Except it didn’t come out until I was 17...1961 if I recall correctly.

I had one of the early Caterham SVs, when the Nearns still ran the business. Great car, and had loads of fun with it, and no issues. Hated to part with, but things changed.

In 1969, I walked into Hollywood VW and bought a “Bug” for $1500.

In the showroom, there was this 2-seater that had a $5000 sticker. The car? A Porsche 911.

Times...and prices have changed...

Yes I bought my first car an MG for $2500. I put $500 down and my Dad cosigned the loan. $73 per month. Of course I was only making $80 per week at my first job.

Mr. GG2 grew up near there and used to drive dead man’s curve all the time.

I had an MGB, too. Lots of fun driving it...when it ran. Only had it 18 months but during that winter, we would put the top down, rolled-up the windows and turned the heater up full blast while driving on 2-lane country roads. It was a blast!

I came “that close” to buying a TR6 - loved that car!!!. But my wife was pregnant and didn’t believe me when I said I could fit the baby in the “back seat”.

I’ve always preferred smaller, sports-sized cars that had great handling vs larger comfort couches - although I did drive an Infinity - midsize model - that had decent handling.

“When it ran”. Words to live by. LOl!

My last sports car was a 1985 Mercedes 260, 16 valve, 5 speed. It was a grey market so all the parts had to be ordered from Stuttgart on about a 7 day wait but I loved it. I had it painted lacquer black with red pinstripes and I ran pirrelis on the front and Yokohama’s on the back so it was slightly jacked up. No catalytic converter so my mechanic would tweak it down once a year and he would take it up the street to his emission guy and get it passed and then tweak it back up and I’d be good to go. Every guy in Atlanta wanted to buy that car off me. I finally decided to act my age and sold it to a 17 year old kid. Now I drive a Honda CRV. :-)
