What was your dream car when you were 16?
Wanted a 68 Camaro,bronze,black rally stripes,craiger 5 spokes wheels,bronze morroso valve covers.
Kinda looked like this in my mind.
That was my dream car too, specifically the one belonging to a coworker. That car was black & had a 389 with twin 4-barrels, and a 4-speed manual. Don sold it for $1200 when he joined the Marines in 1973. I had the money and was very tempted, but my parents would have killed me the moment I showed up in it.
Anything that wasn’t a skateboard. Coming from poor kind of tempered my materialistic dreams.
Don’t let Valdini see it.
That’s the one, but it needs a more aggressive paint job—gotta have some flames!
Question: Why haven’t the Brits developed a Space Shuttle yet?
Answer: It constantly leaks oil and they can’t figure out how to make it run with a positive ground!
I met a guy at a party in 1969 who had a Chevelle SS 396 that he had hopped up to the max. I was stunned when he tossed me the keys and said take it out for a drive. Ho ho ho, that was fun!
There was a show on with a British actor called the Equalizer. He drove a black Jag. I fell in love and wanted a black Jag. In 2006 I finally could afford one and bought a black and silver S Type. Still have it.
My first car was a 4-door Pontiac Tempest, 6-cylinder with three-on-the-tree, in that uniquely GM color which couldn't make up its mind whether it was green or blue. Yes, better than walking or hitching or worse yet, having your parents take you there.
Still dreamin’ I’m afraid.
My wife & I were a couple of 19 y/o kids from Ohio who moved to LA/Hollywood and found an apt near Sunset before it became a dungeon of Darkness. These lyrics were so real to me...
I flew past LaBrea, Schwab's, and Crescent Heights
And all the Jag could see were my six tail lights
He passed me at Doheny then I started to swerve
But I pulled her out and there we were...at Dead Man's Curve
When I was 16 I had a 49 Ford coupe. I dreamed I would get it and my dad gave it to me ! Yea!
Loved the Super 7, but since the Nearns sold Caterham to the ex-Lotus group, they have become too pricey for my taste. Also, an old 7 dealer said the quality of the new frame manufacturer is not as good as the previous one. Finally, I’m disappointed that Caterham abandoned their old dealers for Superperformance.
lol
My Jag is getting old now so I went and test drove new cars. Lexus, Mercedes, etc. Don’t like any of them anymore than I like my jag so looks like I may drive it til the wheels fall off.
Yeah, I had three. The worst was the 1975.5 I bought new. Piece of crap I swapped straight across for a 76 Honda Civic after six months of hell.
My brother had a beautiful ‘67 Mercury Cougar that I loved.
Now I have my current fave, a 2005 Audi A4 Avant V6, six speed manual. But I never drive it!
Cheers,
Jim
Is that the 2+2?
I had a 72 Z, two seater classic Datsun orange augmented by classic Japanese rust. We used to take our toddler and baby in it, the toddler strapped into a cuddle seat held down in the hatch by the car’s luggage straps.
Probably go to jail for doing that today! The things you do when you’re young!
Cheers,
Jim
My dad owned hat car...until I was born and he had to sell it. He never let me forget it either.
I saw that movie at the drive-in.
