incidentally, I have read peer-review, double-blind studies showing that large doses of L-carnitine fumarate help to prevent damage to the heart muscle even if administered two hours *after* the start of a heart attack.
Apparently (IIRC) it has something to do with helping shuttle fatty acids into the mitochondria -- presumably helping with the energetic needs of the heart, or the anaerobic energy needs: which come in handy during infarction-induced hypoxia...

Unfortunately my kidneys don’t agree at the present. Animal protein evidently makes the kidneys work harder, glomerular hyperfiltration. There’s evidence that plant protein is easier on them, and I have to restrict total protein anyway until the proteinuria is under control. That’s still weeks away.
