Free Republic is no longer frequented by those who believe constitutional principles are bedrock. Instead the emphasis is on “American principles”, a very slippery slope. Unfortunately, Hillary, Barack and Bernie can all lay claim to representing American principles, which are simply the political soup de jure.
This is an anti-intellectual trend. And no I am not an anti-Trump proponent like the NRO pseudo-intellectuals. I’m just saying you cant have intellectual discourse when we are assaulted by memes (”Lyin’ Ted” is a meme, not discourse).
If I say, for example, that Donald Trump’s Ethanol policy is pandering cronyism, I will be called a friend of Lucifer for pointing out that ethanol is an environmental and economic disaster. When in the throes of a personality cult, don’t expect enlightenment from those wielding pitchforks.
Lyin' Ted is mocking - a long-standing staple of political discourse.
And appropriate, since Ted routinely plays fast and loose with facts in order to make them say something different.
Populism is the home turf of demagoguery.
The Cruzers seem to have Stockholm Syndrome
The Trumpers seem to have Pied Piper of Hamlin Syndrome
Me, I am voting for anyone but Hitler-y Rotten Klinton.
I started out very much towards Cruz, then flirted a bit with Trump then back to Cruz, However.
Cruz has soured on me with his support for TPA/TPP/H1B mess and his picking of iCarly H1B Queen for Veep.
I like Trump’s message, but I don’t trust him to actually carry through with 10% of his campaign promises based on his past history in business and shmoozing to politicians, even the Klintoons and Mitch McConnel, and his Golfing Buddy Boehner.
I will vote for whomever WINS the Republican Nomination, be it Trump or Cruz against Hillary. However if they pick Paul Ryan or Drinky McKay-Sick I am gonna Vote for 3rd party, constitution or Libertarian or just stay home for the first time on election day.
