The year was 2012. Zero was running for reelection and the Repubs desperately needed a better candidate than they fielded in 2008 if they were going to regain the White House.
As usual, Freepers were posting articles and comments about the upcoming election, the candidates running for the Republican nomination, how to defeat Zero, etc. During the primary season of 2012 Free Republics owner enthusiastically campaigned against one of the candidates, Mitt Romney. If the only information that you had about Romney was what FR's owner posted you would have had to conclude that Romney was pure evil concentrated. However, when Romney was nominated to run against Zero, FR's owner reversed course and got behind the nominee.
I became disappointed in what I perceived as extreme hypocrisy from the head of the premier conservative forum on the internet and quietly left the site for several years.
With the 2016 campaign season being free of Zero and shaping up to be one of the more interesting campaigns of our maturing republic I found my password and logged back in hoping to engage in interesting, civil and conservative dialog. Everything looked the same but there was a different feel to the place. A lot of anger, a lot of fear and a lot of hatred of conservatives for conservatives.
I do not particularly like Mr. Trump and expressed my opinion on the subject. Of course that resulted in being attacked with reckless abandon by the Trump faithful. When I retaliated I quickly earned a couple of timeouts and limited posting privileges, in other words, second class membership, while those who attacked me continued posting their vicious slanders against anybody and everybody that wasn't on board the Trump Train. The double standard couldn't be more obvious.
Then, on 4/23/16, the owner of the site pledged total support to Mr. Trump believing that Trump is the only path to victory over the presumed democommie candidate, Hillary Clinton, regardless of the fact that Trump is not a conservative. Freepers who openly refused to pledge their support for Mr. Trump were quickly purged with Trump's exuberant peanut gallery fearlessly and gleefully shouting insults and catcalls for all non-Trump supporters to 'ride the lightning'.
Welcome to Trump Republic.

Some of what you say is correct but you have taken it the wrong way.
I have been a Cruz supporter from the start but it now looks like it is going to be Trump. He is saying the right things now but who knows what he truly believes?
The country has sunk so far that it may be beyond saving. If it is going to be made well again it will take strong medicine. For better or worse, Trump is just that.
He cannot possibly be as bad as Obama and he just might be the right man at the last chance.

Cowboy, I supported Cruz and felt he wuld be the best President.
But the facts on the ground, and the people voting are showing something different.
Trump, despite his former ways, has expressed not only strong opinions and statements that have aroused the people, he has done it in a way that shows he is willing to go up against the establishment, the MSM< the DNC, etc.
And now, on his own site he has backed up his positions with good detail, which if implemented will help turn this country around.
After the wins last Tuesday, CNN is now showing Trump with 52 total delegates likely in PA (and it is likely that that number will go higher, probably over 60 before all is said and done and once they vote at the convention):

Current delegate count according to them, and I have found them to be fairly accurate is:
Trump: 991
Cruz: 568
Kasich: 154

I expect Trump will go well over the top (probably by 60 or more delegates at this point), on June 7th.
If Cruz is interested in the GOP nominee (without any “e”) winning in November, then he needs to concede next week after Trump (in all likelihood) takes Indiana.
I pray to God that is what he will do. He has the power to:
1) Unite the party by so doing.
2) Deliver a huge blow to the GOPe by so doing.
3) Set up for a big GOP November win.

Again, I say all of this as one who has diligently supported Cruz...but recognizes the truth of the situation and the absolute need to defeat the Dems in November.
I believe Jim has come to the same conclusion and is trying to get FR united in that.
Fact is...GOP disunity kept a couple f million of people home in 2012 and Romney lost as a result...and as a result of his not taking the fight to Obama. We simply CANNOT afford that to happen again.
But each has to follow their own internal compass on this and I pray God’s blessing on you and yours as you sincerely do.

Romney is pure evil out for his own gain. Obama’s fortified evil on mission to destroy this country. That makes the choice easy. Fighting for leadership fallowed by unity is a useful trait in a group. Not sure why you object to it.

For instance, you claim that Trump is not a conservative, when in reality an original piece was published on this site, which demonstrated conclusively that Donald Trump has been espousing these same conservative idas for the last 30 years or so. Citations were given which came directly from some of Donald Trump's many books that he has published over the years.
Immigration. Taxes. Trade. The factual record demonstrates that your assertion regarding Trump's conservative credentials is both hysterical and false.
The only members who got banned are the ones who violated Jim Robinson's specific, temporary suggestions regarding "NeverTrump" advocacy, constant insults towards Trump and his supporters, and, in general, Ted Cruz fanboys functioning as de facto propaganda mouthpieces for the GOPe, and, by extension, the Hillary campaign.
At some point, such Enemy propaganda needs to be squelched. This community, which has overwhelmingly decided to suport Donald Trump, has reached that point.
So, yes, Cruz fanboys who continue to insist on being used as propaganda dupes by the GOPe/Cruz campaign, will find the going to be quite rough for the forseeable future.
Once these poor souls experience a reduction in their symptoms (delusional parroting of Establishment propaganda), they will everntually be welcomed back into the community with open arms.
Until then, however, I agree fully with the site's owner that undermining the Trump campaign with hateful, slanted agitprop is unlikely to be tolerated.

Your candidate, Ted Cruz, has lost. It simply remains to be seen whether he will accept defeat with grace, or instead be totally humiliated.
The American people don't want a contested convention that guarantees splintering the party, destroying voter enthusiasm, causing countless Trump voters to stay home, and having Hillary win in a landslide in November.
Anyone who does want such a scenario to unfold is, at this point, aiding and abetting the Enemy, whether wittingly or not.
