I know the problem well.
My wife is Buddhist, can’t kill anything.
Her friend, also a Buddhist had roaches. I actually found a birth control trap for roaches. You break a vial of some insect growth hormone in a trap and for 6-8 weeks the vapors will prevent roaches from reproducing. It actually works better than the poisons, and you don’t have to worry about pets or children getting into it.
Rats are an entirely different problem. The law says you can use snap traps, glue strips or electricity to kill them, but if you live trap them, then you have to transport them 20 miles from the capture site and release them in a wooded area. What a pain in the butt. The critters get into our garage in the winter, so I trap them and release them in a nature preserve in the next county. About a third of the time, when they get released, red tail hawks nail them before they even get off the parking lot blacktop. I’m pretty sure they don’t last much long even if they make it to the woods.
All my wife knows it that they were transported and released alive.
Sean Hannity had an engineer on his radio program who was a hippy-dippy leftist. She was a radical animal rights activist, and one year for her birthday Sean gave her a live lobster from that “livelob” website.
What did she do with it? She took it to the neighborhood pond and “set it free”. It swam around for a few minutes in the non-salt water environment and died.
Feeding them to the red-tailed Hawks seems like a good idea.
Uh, sure. Right. I'll do just that.
