$174,000 per year. A lot of us would have to take a pay cut to become a US Senator.
especially born again Christians are commanded to tithe....? To whom?
I do believing in giving tithe, but as a strong Trump supporter I will cut Cruz a break. We dont list what we give to our church on taxes. Maybe he does not either. We just give without expectation of benefit. We do list donations to other charities.

My previous church (which brought in Robert Morris to lecture us on tithing) would have called you a poor stewart.
By not claiming the tax deduction, you are giving money to the government. Money that could have have been used in God’s service: helping the poor, spreading the gospel, supporting your local church, etc...
It’s not a plus for Cruz to imply he is a poor stewart of the blessings God had given him. You are not helping Cruz by suggesting this; if anything, you are harming his reputation.
I APOLOGIZE TO ALL ... I READ A WRONG REPORT ABOUT BASE SALARY .... CRUZ DOES NOT HAVE A BASE SALARY OF A MILLION TWO ... IT’S MUCH LESS
It’s OK to make a million dollars a year and not give a penny to a church. Just don’t pretend to be a dedicated Christian while doing so. The issue isn’t whether or not he gives, it’s whether or not he’s a hypocrite and a fake.
We are also called to be good stewards of our money. If you can get a tax break, take it. I'm sure God would approve.
I don't have any problem calling them as I see them either, but that isn't a real good example of anyone raking Trump over the coals, it just is what it is.
Was he implicitly saying, look at me, I tithe, and this hypocrite does not?
Was he implicitly saying, "I, your pious pastor, am without sin, let me cast the first stone", or what?
Was he saying, of all the issues facing the country, the debt, the uncontrolled immigration resulting in loss of national language and culture, political corruption do not matter. I, a member of the religious Sanhedrin, deem Cruz disqualified, because I say he is disqualified and this is the most important issue? We must wait and the country disintegrate until a more pious candidate comes along.
I cannot stand pious, religious jerks. I know I am being a hypocrite by judging your pastor on this one ill thought out comment.
Your post, about a man you don't know, reveals the psyche of Ted Cruz and his followers these days: desperate and petty.
While there are differing views on tithing and charatible giving, you, like Cruz, are the one acting pious, vindictive ...and out of touch.
I support Trump.

Under threat jail I give about 40%-50% of my income to the Democrat's "God".
About half of that goes to "feed the poor" and about 20% goes to feed the military. The rest goes to line the pockets of the High Priests of Government.
This is an old topic. When Cruz was asked about it months ago he didn't try to say that he “gives money to the church without declaring it.” He simply admitted that he didn't tithe. There is an interview that you can probably find.
This is only relevant to some because of the way Ted portrays himself. It is apparently relevant enough that many people here decided they wanted to comment on it.
I object to you making derisive comments about Free Republic because you don't want this topic discussed.
I support Trump, but I also like Ted Cruz. I just believe Trump has more of a chance to win and prevent Hellary from residing it the WH.
The act of a sniviling cheap skate.
I commend you for acknowledging your error. That is a rare thing to see on the forum. Most people will either make excuses or double down.
You are a good man, Charlie Brown. :-)
If you saw the Peanuts Movie, you’ll know what I mean.

If you can’t tell the difference between judging someone as not holy enough(which we haven’t done with Cruz and which you do with Trump) and judging someone as Phony because they lie about being super holy then there’s nothing to talk about.
You forgot Heidi ...
According to Glassdoor.com, the typical managing director at Goldman has base salary of about $376,000 and total compensation including bonus and stock of about $600,000 per year.
I didn’t see the returns, and i don’t know how much he and Heidi were making vis-a-vis their student loan debt, which may have been substantial.
If he the rising political star and Heidi the rising investment banker were making several hundred thousand a year with little debt and giving less than 1% to charity, then yes, that would be extremely hypocritical. Offensively so.
I’m the same way. What I give to my church is my GIFT (and more than 10%) with NOTHING expected in return - including a reduction of taxes!
