In centex we can direct-seed from nov-feb cool crops and transplant march 1. Work like crazy till May 15 when it gets into the 95o then we go inside and don’t go back outside until Oct, except to harvest and water. Fist hard freeze isn’t until mid or late Nov., so we can take our time gardening. Growing bitter and water melon, winter squashes, eggplant, big melons, pumpkins too.
Sounds good. I don’t know why, but I seem to have more energy and enjoy planting more in the fall. Nearly always get some garlic in, sometimes winter wheat, and cool crops like lettuce, spinach and carrots under row covers.
Still experimenting to see when the best time is here to get the carrots in so that we can be munching in March.
