I woke up Thursday morning. The first thing on my agenda was a 10 a.m. call with my partners, Tim More and promoter Donnie Frezell, to put together the guarantee fee for three shows with Prince in California this coming summer.

I understand he was a talented guy and all, but...I never cared for his music.
Like Bowie, an enormously talented guy who went his own way musically and like Bowie, a true music legend. I spent some time yesterday listening to ‘Sign O’ The Times’ for the first time in years - I’d forgotten how good the entire album was. This has been a bad year for deaths in music.
I remember this song and it is one of my favorites, I think I will be listening to the purple rain soundtrack this weekend.
Sheesh. I am hard-pressed to see why there has been 24 hours of full-time lamentation over a very odd and confused man whose only claim to fame is some kid music and sexually confused styles.
I hope his soul was in order and he’s in a better place - but it’s not like he gave his life for his country or something.
Bad year in musical deaths for sure. I listened to Prince back in the 80’s. After a while, his music went a different direction as did my musical taste. I always respected the guy for what he was. He was a true eccentric with enormous talent.
This is a bit much. I didn’t care for him either but it’s very sad the reaction to his death compared to our Military.
“I never cared for his music”
Me either for the most part. I was in my 20s in the 1980s. Funny how now they are touting him as some sort of a breakthrough for blacks in the music world back then. I do not recall anyone back then having a problem with or saying anything derogatory about his race. Now all of a sudden........
saw a woman last nite on cbs news bawling her eyes out about it. Anyone passing is sad, but Gee.
Thanks so much for chiming in! I know I speak for many around here who just couldn’t wait to get your take on this matter. What a relief it is to know where you stand and by all means keep us updated on all of your opinions as they are so profound and treasured.
” but its not like he gave his life for his country or something.”
You are right. He did not give his life for the country. He was an entertainer. Someone who a lot of people will miss. He made his mark musically and that was as good an escape for millions of people than just about anything else. It may not have been your cup of tea but to many others, it is sad news.
As far as being odd. He was. He was very rich and eccentric. He did not understand normal activity as he wasn’t living a “normal” life. That being said, he donated a lot of time, money and equipment to Minneapolis Schools and their music programs.
At least he wasn’t doing harm to children like the self proclaimed, King of Pop....
Did you notice this list of 10 songs you didn’t know he wrote?

And all this time I thought carol king wrote everything.
And at least Prince’s music was all his own.
Thriller was basically a Quincy Jones project, with Michael doing the vocals.
Agreed. Purple Rain doesn't come close to Purple Haze.
I feel the same. Never understood why people thought he was so awesome. Sad he died so young, though.
Mr. Tickle.
Do not name your daughter "Tess".
“I am hard-pressed to see why there has been 24 hours of full-time lamentation over a very odd and confused man whose only claim to fame is some kid music and sexually confused styles.”
Then why post?
His music was part of many of our childhoods and young adult years.
He made great catchy songs that defined the sound of the 80s.
Are we only allowed to listen to people whose songs are either on the country music or Christian music stations?

Guy sure could play the guitar
Life is just a party, and parties aren’t meant to last
What is your problem? Not everyone worshipped The Guy Formerly Kniwn As Prince. We express opinions here. We don’t always agree. Ain’t FR grand?
