The incredible shallowness of Ted Cruz’s say-anything presidential campaign
Dallas Morning News ^ | 4/22./16 | Micheal Lidenberger

Sen. Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign is a machine with a broken off switch, and it’s America’s terrible, rotten, no-good luck to have to watch it play on until its batteries die. His is a shallow campaign, energetically devoted to winning votes on the cheap. He continues to ask the very least of the same America he wants to lead. This morning he blasted Donald Trump for being soft on the bathroom issue. “Gosh, he thought that men should be able to go into the girls’ bathroom if they want to,” he told a crowd hundreds strong in Frederick, Md., reports Washington bureau chief Todd Gillman. “Have we gone stark raving nuts?” Trump’s offending comments? Earlier Trump had been asked about North Carolina’s ...

No, we hate Cruz for being a whore and political opportunist. He lost me when he took up with BLM, MOVEON, SOROS in Chicago and has only doubled down on being an A-hole to the voters who were formerly in his corner. After his trampling of free speech rights I don’t give a damn where people take a leak.
Go cry to Michelle Fields about it.. Another useless tool that blew up in Lying Ted’s face

On major difference is that Cruz stated his opposition to the issues such as the cannibus laws and same sex marriage while categorizing them as states rights issues.

Trump's position still appears to be "They use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate" even though he designates it as a states rights issue.

Since when did it become a job of the POTUS to make bathroom laws?

People, if you don’t like those laws you have to get out and fight it like the people do who push this stuff on you.

Your morals stink. You don’t give a damn about your fellow man. All you give a damn about is thumping your bible until your fingers bleed.

Gross amorality in the form of false righteousness is just as insidiously evil as the outright nihilism of the Left.

The bible has some choice words for people like you, and they are not complimentary at all. You can start with 1 John 4:19-21.

Yes he is wrong on this issue but unlike every other candidate in the race he is not a globalist and he will build the wall and enforce the law. For that alone he deserves my vote. The insanity of letting men into ladies bathroom, locker rooms and showers will become apparent soon enough.

No, Trump doesn’t support it. He does have to pick and choose his battles wisely...something he been essentially accused of NOT doing.

Tanya what a lot of people here don’t get. Living and working in DC I’ve met 4 transgendered people, and one lives across the street from me. Three of these people look like women, if you met them you would have no idea they were born male. Now, the one that lives across the street from me looks like a really unfortunate, manly, ugly woman...but she’s in a committed long term relationship.

I don’t think there’s a tsunami of poorly disguised cross dressing perverts breaking into women’s restrooms, with barely concealed facial stubble prancing between the stalls and accosting every woman they see. If there was, we probably would have seen at least one or two news stories on it. It’s just not happening. When a TG person uses the bathroom, most of the time no one knows.

So the law fixed a problem that doesn’t exist, caused a backlash against NC, and effectively accomplished nothing. Whether transgenderism is right or wrong I’m not making a comment on it. It’s just this whole argument is stupid.

This is the dumbest argument yet for not caring what the Donald thinks. First of all, the President is the one who appoints the Judges who determine whether the laws against or for things are constitutional. You elect a person who thinks it’s okay for mentally ill men to use women’s bathrooms and locker rooms, then obviously he’s not going to care if the Judge he appoints thinks it’s “constitutional” also.

Second, maybe you don’t care about the liberal moral thinking of the President, whether he can do something or not, but I do. It sets the whole tone for the way the country goes.

What Trump is saying is that it is not one of the crucial issue facing the nation.

Let me get this right-- North Carolina passed a law saying that men have to use the men's room, and women have to use the women's room. And the liberal ignorati find this to be a "ghastly, discriminatory" law, because the mentally ill person with sexual confusion on rare occasions stumbles into the wrong room, and should be allowed to.

Trump basically said, "If it ain't broke don't fix it." Cruz made it sound like this is the end of the world. I wonder who is really nuts out there.

And where is this alleged "list of conservative judges" Trump SAID he would nominate to be found? Who does the list include?

"Globalism" has nothing positive to do with ANY social issue. Quite the contrary. The EU is busily cramming abortion and sexually perverted EVERYTHING down Ireland's throat and Spain must not be far behind on the target list. The UN is certainly no better. Stop the pretense that anyone who is not an intellectually cramped "paleo""conservative" is some sort of "globalist."

As Trump's campaign, confident now of nomination if prematurely so, turns to its next phase, he is seeking to take social issues off the table (along with who knows what else) so that he can continue his style against Her Royal Thighness wthout treading towards those very perilous waters of what the old-fashioned among us (the CONSERVATIVES) call "substance."

He can not very effectively defend Christian civilization or even Christian religious freedom when he has not a nodding acquaintance with either. He dislikes the media? He sure has mastered using the media and they him. A promise to make education local? I would prefer to get it out from under the dead hand of leftist government at any level. Rather than pious promises, what has Trump DONE with ANY of his money to support financially struggling urban and other private academies seeking to reclaim children from the scrap heap of gummint misedjumakashun?

If Trump is able to do as he's promised (or even exhibits any vaguely credible intention of doing so, whatever he may actually intend), he can be inaugurated in January which is likely his only actual ambition. Then we may all repent at leisure.

More likely, he will be crushed by the Demonrats' propaganda and spend the rest of his life whining about the unfairness of it all, blaming the Electoral College rules, blaming Megyn Kelly in vulgar terms, ANYTHING but taking personal responsibility for his shortcomings.

Oh, and Ted Cruz is not perfect either, just more so than Trump. We ought to nominate Scott Walker.

Look, over there! Dancing bears! Bearded ladies! Tom Thumb! The Elephant Man! Pay no attention to the issues. Nothing to see there.

Trump/Kardashian in 2016! NOT!

Ted Cruz’s campaign can be boiled down to one theme. It’s the same theme anywhere that he speaks.

“I HATE TRUMP”. He is a one note samba. I’ starting to wonder if Cruz is not a robot. Sorry, “mechanical person”.

Since this strategy is working so well for Cruz, it’s no wonder he continues to employ it. (sarc)

Get out of the race, Ted. You are just embarrassing yourself.

I completely agree with your whole post regarding the morality issue here.

We the people need to push back. The problem is that not enough of “we the people” agree with you and me-new polling out of Reuters has “yes” and “no” on transgendered bathrooms within the margin of error. I don’t know how to fix that, other than to change hearts and minds, and I don’t know how to do that, either.

My argument on this issue has been a political one. This isn’t an issue for the president. Lauer asked a gotcha question and Trump, political neophyte that he is, fell right into it. Now Trump is being excoriated for having essentially the same positions on social issues as Cruz, and Cruz is one of the ones doing the excoriating. I’m just sick to death of double standards.

You mean like this guy? Cruz’s pick to replace Scalia donated to Dems in 2008.

The effect is the same. If you’re for states rights, as Cruz is, as Trump is, and as I am, that will unfortunately allow liberal states to legalize some very unsavory things.

Meanwhile, pretending he’s not for what he’s for allows Cruz to bludgeon Trump on these issues. I have a problem with such blatant double standards, although I see that not everyone else does.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment but my transcript of Trumph’s latest speech (and all his prior policy staements) shows Trump saying, “no not health of the Mother I would leave it as life of the mother.” Do you have some additional info? I agree there is a chasm of difference.

Since Cruz also comes down on states’ rights on this and other sexuality issues, it is again a bit of a pwash in terms of those two candidates.

I don't believe Cruz took a States Rights position on this issue. He took a fundamental moral position. He said that it is morally wrong.

I agree it is fundamentally morally wrong to not only allow men into women's bathrooms and lockers, but it is an abomination when a city like Charlotte passes an ordinance that forces businesses to open up their women's restrooms to anyone who "identifies" as a member of s sex to which they were not born.

Trump took a stand denouncing North Carolina for trying to stop this madness. He can do that because he has no foundational moral compass. Cruz, to his credit, has taken the position that this insanity is wrong. Just wrong. Trump is ambivalent that the country is sinking into a moral sewer. Just build the wall. That's what we want to hear.
