An F-35B Lightning II takes off from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp during test operations in May.

Military spending is obscene.

Chinese chips running Indian software.

What could possibly go wrong?

Yes, I know they are supposed to be domestically sourced...

off topic...

Here is an interview with a native american woman who has lived in reservations her whole life, written several books with a few degrees. Under Obama spending has skyrocketed. From one agency under Clinton (dept of Indian Affairs) to over 29 agencies now covering 566 tribes (400 open applications for more). She estimates the spending is nearly as much as for defense (they refuse to do an audit). What she has found regarding Arab nations and their ties to these reservations is scary.

Very interesting interview on Caravan to Midnight:

Well, they're getting the helmets right. Thankfully, my son weighs 180+

The recent sled test, conducted with a 103-pound mannequin, is the latest sign that the JPO can make good on its promise to finish the three design fixes by November, allowing the military services to lift restrictions on lightweight pilots flying the F-35. Last year, Defense News first reported that pilots under 136 pounds were barred from flying the fifth-generation aircraft after testers discovered an increased risk of neck damage to lightweight pilots ejecting from the plane. The US Air Force has also acknowledged an “elevated level of risk” for pilots between 136 and 165 pounds.

When it comes to the F35, don’t expect many “knowledgeable comments”.

In fact, there are only a few knowledgeable FReepers around here who know anything about aviation.

But there are many times that around here who do think they’re experts.

The F35 has flown when ALIS has had problems...there are backup options.

Well, that's part of the fun.

Interesting that Trump was aware that the test pilots were complaining about the responsiveness of these planes and wondered why they weren’t being listened to. Interview back in February.

Maintenance and spares software system. Some boondoggle sold by some educated fool to a bigger fool.

We have become to clever by more than half in thinking that we can somehow create software that eliminates thinking.

We have wrestled with an “established and proven” system called “maximo” now for three years. More trouble than it is worth. The systems we use for ship maintenance are nice for reminders and to archive all the mass of procedures but take six men and two boys to keep maintained, fed, watered and running.
