St. Petersburg, Florida, resident Ryan Hein says he couldnt believe that he was able to pull in a 400-pound Goliath grouper with nothing more than a homemade jig, two hooks, and a number-11 wrench.
A lot of mechanics know that you dont really use an 11 for anything, Hein said. At least I never have.

Can’t even take a large one out of the water to remove hook.
IIRC, the Goliath Grouper is a protected species. Catch and release only, no targeting of the species.
I really don’t know about that either, but size doesn’t seem to hurt a tuna steak, although a grouper is from a different family of fish.
Haven’t had a good piece of grouper lately. I think I need to head for the coast a couple of days this spring.
If he didn’t release it he could be jailed and fined.
And, fyi, they were called jewfish up until a few years ago because racism.
For me the best tuna steak cooks up like beefsteak & needs a steak knife to cut it.
Or am I thinking of swordfish? Haven’t had either in a while.
OK...I know nothing about the regs in Florida. So that makes sense, what the lucky guy did. Thank you for the insight.
I have eaten a swordfish steak, but have not cooked one. I think swordfish and mahi mahi are from the same family of fish as tuna . . . the jack family, I think. They are all similar in taste, grain and texture, although I prefer tuna steak. Yes, very much like a beef steak, even down to cooking them medium to medium rare. . . better to not overcook. Some would say medium is overcooking.
Better stop . . . getting hungry and I won’t be able to knock down a tuna steak tonight. But tuna steaks are one of my very favorites.
Then, clearly, you’ve never wrenched on a Ford...
You’d want to pick the worms out in a freezer, or it would spoil before you’re finished.
[That may be hyperbole, but there’s no way I’d want to eat a 400# GG, even if it was legal].
And if you lose it the only way to find it is buy another one and it will turn up.
What the hell was that fish working on he needed an 11?
Weird.
Only my 1970 Ford pickup. No metric bolts on it!
there’s a reason dive-masters remind everyone to take off anything shiney
What was a 400 pound fish doing with a wrench?
then maybe those people should be out there fishing
he caught it... and it was his choice to release it.
if you have a problem with that, you might be on the wrong site. check the welfare office for a link to bernie's or hillary's pages
Looks like an oil filter wrench.
Instructional Video for wrenching fish.

But Goliath was a Philistine...
Maybe when you are sober, you'll realize how stupid your comments are.
Oh yeah. Fried grouper sammies!
