Michelle Obama has given the Queen an early birthday surprise by announcing she will accompany the US President when he has lunch with Her Majesty later this week.
Mrs Obama has struck up a firm friendship with the Queen during her previous visits to the UK, and famously ignored royal protocol to put her arm around the monarch's shoulders in 2009.
Until now, the US Embassy had indicated that President Barack Obama would be on his own for a private lunch with the Queen at Windsor Castle on April 22, the day after she turns 90.
But Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Mr and Mrs Obama will make up a foursome for lunch with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
The Obamas will also have a private, informal dinner with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry at Kensington Palace later the same day, their spokesman announced.
The Duke, who met Mr Obama in the Oval Office in 2014, extended the invitation and the Obamas gladly accepted.

I don’t know if the Ocean Liner QEII is still afloat but, if it won’t hurt the ship, maybe Obozo and Moochelle could be keelhauled in the finest tradition of Her Majesty’s Navy which could take over QE II for that effort.

She invited herself? I wouldn’t be surprised, neither of the Obamas have an ounce of couth or knowledge of, or concern for, ettiquette. But they milk every drop of ceremony due to them.

Once they get to Hawaii, not so much (limited opportunities for live interviews due to time shift, going to anything on the continent requires lots of planning, etc). He'll seethe under President Trump, but do it through his journolist cadre.
