I've read Yudkin, and he was correct. Sugar is a much bigger problem than sedentary life.

I was just like you, Vaquero, and with a huge sweet tooth. Sugar (where the fructose molecule is half of all table sugar) damages livers if eaten in the large quantities that Americans now consume. And then the Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver disease that occurs, progresses in many cases to liver cancer, which is the only cancer on the rise and is not very treatable.

A young adult human body can only detoxify about 30 grams of fructose (about 60 grams of table sugar) per day. More than that and it slowly poisons your liver.

If you are/were a huge sugar addict, watch your liver function tests and when they start going out of whack, fatty liver disease has probably started. A sonogram of you liver will show ripples like waves of sand.

This country has an epidemic, even of 6-month-olds, because parents are feeding kids juice loaded with sugar and they have very tiny livers than can detoxify almost no sugar.

just watch... liver cancer is growing and is destined to be the number on cancer killer soon

Your scientific proof of this preposterous assertion?

For the record, excessive caloric intake of pretty much any type can lead to ‘fatty liver’. There is some data that a ketogenic diet can help prevent/treat non-alcoholic fatty liver, but those on ketogenic diets tend to consume less calories, so this too may be related to overall caloric intake.

At the cellular level, the metabolism of all food sources (i.e. carbohydrates, sugars, fats, protein) is highly interactive, so it isn't as though there is a totally separate and independent metabolic pathway for any of these fuel sources. If cells see high levels of fatty acids, they decrease their metabolism of sugars. If they see high sugar levels, they shut down their metabolism of fats (Randall effect - known for a long time). Eat a balanced and diverse diet with less calories and you will be OK.

By the way, I'm not arguing against your points, and I do think that having kids drinking sugar-filled juices and sodas (and now sugar-filled and fat-filled coffee drinks), along with other poor dietary choices is a very bad thing.

Fructose isn't toxic.

I have Gastroparesis..Slow Motility which means my diet is sans all fiber, high fat, legumes, and it’s led to Bowel Transit time issues. Eating BLAND boring is hard, on top of that there is the SOY/Grapefruit issue for Thyroid issues and slight Dairy Interference. Then you have to add in the HIGH sodium, I have an Enlarged Heart with a small valve leak, not considered repairable. Meniere’s which is referred to as Glaucoma of the ears, because the pressures are unequal like in the eye form. Vertigo is a big part of that and to much sodium effects both the BP and the Meniere’s.

I cringe when I watch the amount of sodium cooking shows use. Sea Salt is all the rage, yet if it’s white it’s bleached. Sea Salt is light Pink, light Grey or Grey.

Sodium is a big issue in a big portion of the population.

Baby formula is high is sugar and large fat globules, which are about like the big globules in Holstein milk which is our main source of Milk now. Which is why we are seeing a up tick in Colic which is now being treated as Acid Re-flux or GERD the treatment will cause brittle bones if it goes on to long. PPI’s are dangerous in this respect to any age patient. They are a short term 2 week treatment not a life time.

If you overwhelm the body with anything, bad things will happen. That said, the quantities you're talking about would be nearly impossible to accomplish.

A young adult human body can only detoxify about 30 grams of fructose

Detoxify? Just about anything can be toxic, but what you're suggesting makes no sense.

More than that and it slowly poisons your liver.

The moderate consumption of fresh fruit poisons your liver? Who knew.

If you are/were a huge sugar addict

Sugar/sucrose is not addictive.

Clearing toxins from your body is a function of the liver. Labeling sugar - however you define it - as toxic is ridiculous.
