Very glad for you, Leni, and thanks for mentioning earlier days.
I have to ask our community here -
Is the there any interest in meeting up again in DC?
I know we’re older now, wiser and have had the piss n vinegar worn out of us, as was Obola’s plan.
However, does anyone sense or hear of any large organized ground swell of resentment and effort to turn things around?
If the 09/12/2009 show of force and outrage could be sustained for months on end at DC and state capitols, we could regain our free republic.
Price of Liberty is eternal vigilance.

I have three freeper family members, one directly and two indirectly here on this site for well over a decade thanks to Drudge.

I have a treasured photo of the two of us at one of the early FR Washington D.C. marches he attended...slouch hat and all!

A number of us Florida freepers got to meet Ann Coulter at this event....and we met JimRob for the first time also!

Memories.....

Frankly, I believe the days of the mass freeper "marches" and rallys are over for the most part. It's a changed world from when we traveled to DC and elsewhere for freeper events.

I could write an essay on why, but it would be too long and time-consuming. Briefly, I think the reasons are:

1).....Too expensive for out-of-state travel, lodging and food in this economy.
2).....Time is too precious now for many folks, for various reasons.
3).....An element of danger in rallys and street corner demonstrations was not a factor a decade ago as it is now.
4).....Folks prefer to do their protests and politicking from the comfort of their comfy "dens", surrounded by their TV and computer screens, phones, music, snacks, beer, comfy chairs and a bed nearby to flop in when tired. It's hard today to pry people from their communication lairs where they are likely to prefer spending their limited free time.
5).....A goodly number of the thousands of freepers who traveled all over for freeps in the olden days are now 15 or more years older...and travelling distances and walking and standing at demonstrations are no longer an option for many.

Although the nation-wide FR chapter structure apparently collapsed several years ago, we still have three chapters in Florida with active, dynamic members. We have local street corner events occasionally, and also some area get-togethers. We even have had great entertainment provided by some of our talented Florida freeper musicians and vocalists at our doings!

Any freeper can organize an event. I personally have organized a "FReep the Debate" big-screen TV viewing with eats at my clubhouse...also a freeper brunch and dinners at area restaurants...plus other fun gatherings. Fellow freepers come from many, many miles away, taking a close-by motel for the night, just to enjoy the politics and great fun at our gatherings.

I hope to have a biggy at my clubhouse on Election Night in November to watch the returns coming in.

In the absence of freeps to DC or other cities, going local with an area freep is a great substitute....and the FR state forum boards are the tools for all freepers across the fruited plain to organize these activities.
