There are only two choices remaining for how the GOP Nomination process goes.
It's hard to handicap who walks out of Cleveland with the crown if we go in with Trump short of 1237 delegates.
What we do know is that the party is being extra-crafty to put party loyalists into as many of those delegate slots as possible. Some of those faux-Trump delegates may well support Cruz, but it's more likely that many are Romney era or even older GOP establishment types.
Do you know your county GOP chair? Those are the type of people who will be deciding the nominee in an open convention.
I think Cruz's chances of winning the nomination on a second or subsequent ballot are pretty poor. He's not loved by the GOP establishment, in fact some say he's liked less than Trump. Having pulled off a great political coup, with the open convention, you can be sure that the powers that be will not settle for Cruz.
This will be the golden opportunity to seat someone they really like.
My guess is Paul Ryan is that guy.
My serious question to Cruz supporters (and Kasich too if there are any here) is: do you prefer having the GOP Establishment pick the nominee to Trump?
And, secondly, if you will stipulate for the sake of discussion that Cruz is unlikely to be the guy, who do you want the GOP Establishment to choose?
“The words above sound like a bought and paid for Soros snowflake plant.”
If that were the case, then wouldn’t I be supporting Kasich?
Of course I’m not going to just go home and not fight for Cruz. It was sarcasm. I’m just playing along with what the article is saying.
For all those carrying the water and attacking the Threat to Soros, MSM, Democrats and Establishment globalists please use common sense. Clinton has paid for people to protest Trump, So has Bernie,so has the Establishment and the MSM is 24/7 trying to destroy him. Soros is funding one of his GOP opponents. THEY WOULD NOT DO THAT IF HE WAS ONE OF THEM.
Do they do that with each other or your guy? No. So stop buying the lies hes one of them, you are being used by what you claim to be fighting against.
sorry. I was in my literal reading mode
Interesting.
So 43% of the delegates ARE required to vote for their candidate after the first round. I have not heard that. Source?
And of those 57% of the delegates, what percentage are candidate loyalists who were picked by their candidate and what percentage are GOPe loyalists who were picked by their local parties?
Exactly,
Cruz will NEVER be the candidate unless the GOP-e decides that Loosing big in 2016 will keep them in power.
You’re delusional. Even if he wins WI outright, Cruz is mathematically eliminated after NY. And he’s going to get killed in the northeast.
Hes done. Deal with it.
If that were the case, then wouldnt I be supporting Katich?
There must be a purposeful reason for the screen name, but, to me when I read it I think Soros... Thus words flowing from Durbin are instantly suspect. Cruz is Katich and Katich is Cruz ... GOPe through and through. So stay home as you said you intend to do.
I'm not saying he's one of them. I'm saying that Cruz has no chance to win the nomination on the first ballot. So his only hope is that he will win in an open convention.
From his point of view the open convention give him some hope of ending up the nominee. A Trump victory in the delegate race gives him no hope.
So, in desperation, he's decided to play the spoiler and force the open convention.
The GOP Establishment fully supports the Open Convention, and appreciate Ted Cruz in his role as spoiler, while still not actually liking the guy or wanting him to be President.
Look at Romney - he tells people in different states to vote for Cruz or Kasich as purely a tactic to deny Trump. He could care less about either of them. There are a lot of GOP Establishment types doing the same.
Even Cruz doesn't think these are real supporters of his, or that they will continue to support him once he's served his purpose of denying Trump a first ballot victory.
Lets be honest. Cruz was never the “outsider” he proclaimed himself to be. An outsider wouldn't allow such distinguished people as Lindsey Graham, Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, and Carly Fiorina into his campaign. In addition, I'm fairly sure Karl Rove is on-board as well.
Seeing that the above folks are all part of the establishment, they wouldn't want an actual Conservative as the nominee.
That's not a contradiction.
The Republican nominee will Cruz, Trump or Kasich. Choosing a standard-bearer who has not campaigned all the way through the primaries would be unacceptable to the GOP’s rank and file.
Yes, I agree with that assessment. I wish it were not so but there it is.
“Youre right, us Cruz voters should just give up and go home and stay there till the elections are over in November”
At this point, it wont look much more different than the open selling out to the GOPe, so most people wont notice.
The GOPe needs Cruz to stay in and continue to win delegates. If Cruz dropped out today then Trump would definitely get to 1237 and win on the first ballot.
I'm sure it's deeply disappointing to the GOPe that it's not Rubio or Jeb preventing Trump. It would be much easier to push a close second place finisher into the nomination than someone who finished horribly (Rich Perry, John Kasich), or didn't even particpate (Romney, Paul Ryan.)
That’s right, the establishment dislikes cruz on the personal level. You notice none of them rallied to Cruz until he was the last possible choice. The only reason they are doing it now is to stop Trump from getting 1237. He is being used like a tool to achieve their goal, that is all.

On the first round the delegates are allowed to abstain from voting.
So all bets are off now.
My guess is the next Potus has already been chosen and the FBI has been told to leave her alone.
What I am wondering about now is how far it could go from riots to complete anarchy as I know the Bernie folk are gonna be super angry too.
It is not up to the supporters of other candidates to "fall in line" - it is up to Trump to persuade them he is worthy of their support. Up until now, he has been failing miserably at that challenge.
I’ve had the same screen name on here since 2011.
Why?
