Like so many mass public shootings, the gunman who attacked the U.S. Capitol on Monday first tried shooting a uniformed officer. Fortunately, the lone gunman was quickly subdued and no one other than the attacker was seriously injured. But it raises questions of what would have happened with a more coordinated terrorist attack.
With terror attacks occurring regularly around the world, we cant ignore the fact that the Capitol would provide a primary target for terrorists. Indeed, an FBI informant foiled such an attack in January.
Police are crucial probably the single most important factor in reducing crime. But uniformed police have a tough job stopping terrorists since they are often the first targets in any attack.

If there was a shooting in the Capitol, then it wasn’t “gun free” was it?
I think right now the White House, the Senate Building, the Capitol should be ‘gun free’ zones, crazies that like to shoot people love ‘gun free’ zones, and I can think of none better to shoot at...
Keep DC disarmed because it will foil any terrorist attacks being they can’t legally use firearms in an attack.
Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Well, sure! It obviously is working to prevent shootings.

Maybe we should stop all postal workers from carrying concealed or otherwise.
Terrorists would “carry” regardless of the laws, wouldn’t they?
Unless they see a sign stating the area is a gun free zone. Then you’re safe.
I told her that sign isn't so much a rule, but a guideline. And winked.
(Disclaimer - in my state the most they can do IF they catch you is ask you to leave. If you put up a fuss or refuse, then it becomes criminal trespass.)
Of course the Capitol has metal detectors, the theater doesn't.
Thanks for the clarification! I'm glad we are in the hands of sensible people.
Mommunists-—What don’t they know?
