When Sundance replaced Mark Levin in the hearts of so many Freepers, I should have taken the hint. The site has become almost totally partisan. That partisanship is leading to such incredible, slanderous commentary that you would have to look twice to see if you are at FR or DU. We talk about a circular firing squad, and here one pops up. We are destroying our chance to move the ultra left out of the White House by trying to destroy each other.
So finally, sadly, I think it is time for me to go, I don't want to be a part of it anymore. I have mostly enjoyed my time here, it used to be a great place, and I was happy to add what little support I could to keeping it up.
To Jim: please check your mail. I sent you a request to delete my account information, but I guess you haven't seen it yet. Good luck with FR and I hope it survives this election cycle without any real bloodshed.
Mods: Please delete my FR account.
You are correct that Cruz is not eligible to be President, and you correctly state reasons why according to the 14th ammendment, Cruz was NOT even a U.S. citizen at birth.
To further clarify, the 14th ammendment defines citizen at birth, NOT “Natural Born Citizen” which is not mentioned anywhere in that ammendment.
To understand that, look to Emer de Vattel, who defined a ‘natural-born citizen’ in his highly acclaimed and influential The Law of Nations, Or, Principles of the Law of Nature, Applied to the Conduct and Affairs of Nations and Sovereigns, Section 212 (1758 French) (1759 English) and to several Supreme Court cases that cite Vattel and his explanation of Natural Born Citizen as one born on U.S. soil to citizen parents, such as:
The Venus, 12 U.S. 8 Cranch 253 253 (1814)
Vattel, who, though not very full to this point, is more explicit and more satisfactory on it than any other whose work has fallen into my hands, says: The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives or indigenes are those born in the country of parents who are citizens.
Society not being able to subsist and to perpetuate itself but by the children of the citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all their rights.
Minor v. Happersett , 88 U.S. 162 (1875)
The Constitution does not in words say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had
elsewhere to ascertain that. At common law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the
Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who
were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives or natural-
born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners. Some authorities go further and include as
citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to
this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first.
United States v. Wong Kim Ark, 169 U.S. 649 (1898)
At common law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was
never doubted that all children, born in a country of parents who were its citizens, became
themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as
distinguished from aliens or foreigners.
You left out something in your tag line:
“Remember the FR Flame Wars!”
LOL
“You also don’t get to decide who should be here, and who shouldn’t.”
You are 100% correct. I don’t get to decide and I am happy about it. Not my place. Been here for a couple of years now and never saw it this bad. It is entertaining but sad. Sides have been taken and I seriously doubt there will be any reconciliation. Both Trump and Cruz will get screwed and instead of us coming together to take on the establishment, we are promoting our own destruction and the media and establishment are adding fuel to the fire.
Oh well.
I didn't see your /s postscript indicating sarcasm.
None was necessary since it wasn't sarcasm, you were just happy to see someone who supports Cruz, someone you don't agree with, say enough is enough and leave...........
What purpose does it serve YOU and this website if all the Cruz supporters are driven off? Let me put it another way,
What purpose does it serve anyone or the website if the shoe is on the other foot and all the Cruz supporters drive all the Trump supports off this website?
You still don't get it do you Bob? Destroying one of our candidates in favor of another should not be what this site is all about. Because once you have done the ground work for the media and democrats and destroyed your targeted GOP candidate, your MSM and the DNC will go out of their way to destroy the remainder...............
Grow thicker skin or go to another site. Sometimes you just gotta walk away. That’s what I do.
In the past, the practice seemed to be that candidates with no practical path forward dropped out "for the good of the party." This time, the Party got beat, but the victors haven't resolved amongst themselves how to finish the job.
If "the good of the movement" were the priority, the laggard would drop out to clear the way for the leader. If personal ambition were the priority, then the laggard stays in and hopes for either a fumble by the leader or a bad call by the referees.
Early campaigning here was typical boosting for preferred candidates. It has since turned antagonistic as the candidates became antagonistic as a clear leader began to emerge, but the campaigns became scorched earth instead of "well played" and a gracious exit.
I think tension is heightened by the intransigence of the Cruz and Kasich campaigns. I had hoped some pressure would be released by Rubio's departure, and others would follow his lead as the next primaries played out and paths forward became clearer. This has not happened. The spoiler campaigns have dug in.
Raising tensions even more is the steady news of the GOPe planning to manipulate the process to coopt the voters and wrest control of the convention to insert someone else at the end of the race. Freepers like me see the Cruz and Kasich campaigns as being stooges for a GOPe that individually convinces that the Party will have their back in a floor fight, but fears a reneging when the time comes.
I see the only way to preempt the beaten GOPe as Cruz dropping out so that Trump wins an overwhelming majority of delegates that cannot be tampered with by rules shenanigans. Why Cruz and not Trump? Because Trump has the dominant lead. If the places were reversed, I'd call for Trump to drop out.
For the trailing candidates to not drop out at this point is head-scratching. The motives are clearly personal and Pyrrhic now. We're in "if I can't win, then nobody will" territory. In my opinion, Cruz is becoming Ahab; he's so obsessed with destroying Trump that he's blind to the actual damage that he's causing to the movement to oust the establishment from Washington.
And it is this last "for hates sake I spit my last breath at thee" behavior from the lagging Cruz that feels like we're again about to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

“Unless you don’t mind voting for mitt or paul Boehner-ryan (& I will not)
We were screwed from the beginning.”
No we weren’t. I will tell you the exact time we lost America. The minute Cruz was accused of cheating with Ben Carson, this election was over. It was set up perfectly by CNN and they knew Trump would jump at the bait.
At that point it was game on. Poke here, prod there and sit back and watch the full scale war of the Conservative movement tearing itself apart.
No, they don't lick Teds shoes 24/7. They have gone so far to the opposite of that that they have become shrill. I don't get over there much anymore, (It used to bog down my machine horribly) but judging by all the posts I see over here that are attributed to Gateway Pundit, I would have to say they have become about as Anti-Cruz as it is possible to become.
I know you pay better attention than that.
I pretty much restrict my surfing to Free Republic and Instapundit. I occasionally go to other non-political websites, but those are the only two politics related websites that I check regularly.
I actually feel sad about this, but before Barack Obama I surfed a dozen political websites every day. After Barack Obama, I really don't see the point anymore. I know longer need input in deciding what I think. What I need is for OTHER PEOPLE to get input to help them decide what to think.
In a nutshell, the American Public needs to be exposed to sources of news that don't go through the New York Liberal Democrat Union member filter called "the media."
The Public needs to be reading all those conservative websites. Not I.
Oh. Yeah...
"We've done 4 already but now we're steady and then they went 1...2...3...4..."
As a lad in my teens in the 70s I didn't get much of a kick outta Led Zep. But as I got older, they grew on me. Then I started to hear...really hear John Paul Jones. He is on my Top 5 bass players of all time. Probably number 3 after John Entwhistle and Chris Squire. Geddy Lee and Verdine White are 4 and 5.
But anyway. I have all their stuff...and then some...on MP3.
No Doubt.
The US Constitution gives Congress the authority to make laws governing immigration and naturalization, they have no authority over nature and those born naturally to the members of any given society.
Citizenship is a political characteristic that can only come via 2 ways, being born to citizen parents that increases the society by natural means, or by naturalization, that which increases the membership of a society by the rule of law.
Rogers v. Bellei (1971) https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/401/815/case.html
Well said.
That's exactly what he did Bob but it didn't require you kicking him in the ass on his way out which only served in reinforcing his reason why he left..
Very well said. You are exactly right.
I could tell, your heart just wasn’t in it. ;)
That’s good analysis. I think it would be interesting here to see if JimRob sees a big difference in this season vs. previous seasons.
