Meyers said the officer let him take his daughter to school and go to work, as long as he promised to turn himself into the police department later that day.

This cop should be fired. If this guy rents another movie and fails to turn it in before he is booked, it is on this cops head!

Oh yeah forgot the < /sarc>

Many of the new releases on VHS in 2002 cost between $40 and $60 each. If you were the owner of a video store, at $3 a rental you had to rent each copy of that movie many times over to break even. If someone doesn’t return the VHS, the investment is gone, as in stolen.

LOL!!!

Lt. Bookman: Maybe we can live without libraries, people like you and me. Maybe. Sure, we’re too old to change the world, but what about that kid, sitting down, opening a book, right now, in a branch at the local library and finding drawings of pee-pees and wee-wees on the Cat in the Hat and the Five Chinese Brothers? Doesn’t HE deserve better? Look. If you think this is about overdue fines and missing books, you’d better think again.

Jerry: [returning book] Any way, I hope there’s no hard feelings.
Lt. Bookman: Hard feelings, what do you know about hard feelings? Ever have a man die in your arms? Ever kill somebody?
Jerry: What is your problem?
Lt. Bookman: What’s my problem, punks like you, that’s my problem. And you better not screw up again Seinfeld, because if you do, I’ll be all over you like a Pit Bull on a Poodle.
[quit exit]
Jerry: That is one tough monkey.

Lt. Bookman: Yeah ‘71, that was my first year on the job. Bad year for libraries. Bad year for America. Hippies burning library cards, Abby Hoffman telling everybody to steal books. I don’t judge a man by the length of his hair or the kind of music he listens to. Rock was never my bag. But you put on a pair of shoes when you walk into the New York Public Library, fella.

I think that was one of the best gags in series history.

I’m aware of the cost of tapes and this store has been out of business for years.

I once paid $189 membership in the 80’s to the local rental store for a beta rental membership.

A few months later they switched to only VHS rentals and I was told my membership was now defunct and I would have to buy another membership to rent VHS from the very same store.

So forgive me, I have a no sympathy in this case for the store owner, even though he may have been a fine person.

When the guy was stopped he had an outstanding warrant. Regardless of the validity of the warrant he needs to get it taken care so he can get it off his record. I believe the police office handled this with delicate situation with the most delicate and proper diplomacy possible. This could have come up at a more inopportune time. Say crossing the board back in to the USA from Mexico. I assume that the best way to do this would be going to the police department later that day. It should not be up to a patrol office to dismiss the warrant. I am feeling pragmatic today. And a little polysyllabic.

I have a few 1 and 2 inch videotape take-up reels in storage.
