Meyers said the officer let him take his daughter to school and go to work, as long as he promised to turn himself into the police department later that day.

This cop should be fired. If this guy rents another movie and fails to turn it in before he is booked, it is on this cops head!

Oh yeah forgot the < /sarc>

Many of the new releases on VHS in 2002 cost between $40 and $60 each. If you were the owner of a video store, at $3 a rental you had to rent each copy of that movie many times over to break even. If someone doesn’t return the VHS, the investment is gone, as in stolen.

When the guy was stopped he had an outstanding warrant. Regardless of the validity of the warrant he needs to get it taken care so he can get it off his record. I believe the police office handled this with delicate situation with the most delicate and proper diplomacy possible. This could have come up at a more inopportune time. Say crossing the board back in to the USA from Mexico. I assume that the best way to do this would be going to the police department later that day. It should not be up to a patrol office to dismiss the warrant. I am feeling pragmatic today. And a little polysyllabic.
