A Rubio-Cruz Ticket Might Be the Only Way to Stop Trump
National Review ^ | 2/24/16 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 03/09/2016 6:32:34 AM PST by RC one

As things stand, Donald Trump is the presumptive GOP nominee. That’s awful news, and depressing to contemplate. But terrible possibilities don’t become less terrible if we refuse to contemplate them. Rather, they become more likely.

If the two factions — which make up the overwhelming majority of Republican voters — could be unified, it might be enough to stop Trump.

What would the deal look like? A Rubio–Cruz ticket. Cruz won’t work at the top of the ticket for the simple reason that too many GOP quislings fear Cruz more than Trump. But a unity ticket — a la Reagan–Bush in 1980 — in the form of Los Hermanos Cubanos might just do the trick. There are real costs to such a deal (not least the fact that there are better general-election running mates for Rubio).

No, and no. I’m a Cruz man but are we about stopping Trump or ensuring the America we love survives? If Cruz were to do this, I would be done with him. I don’t think he is that stupid or power hungry.

What a RINO dirt bag. Cruz is leading Rubes but wants to put Cruz in the VP spot?

I'm so sick of the establishment dweebs thinking they know best.

It’s delicious to witness! I’m waiting for another Leon screed to be posted by our resident Cruz cheerleader.

In the meantime, Jonah the whale is insane.

“How does Trump explain offering the vice-presidency to a man he believes is ineligible to be president, and who he has threatened to sue over his eligibility?”

That’s a good point. I’ve said I’d support a Trump/Cruz ticket, but adding Cruz may actually be dangerous, from a legal perspective.

Probably best to pick a VP without this hanging over their head.

The article is almost 3 weeks old but might as well be 3 years old. Not even Jonah Goldberg thinks Cruz should get behind Rubio now. If the #nevertrump movement was serious, they’d support Cruz outright. But it’s a dishonest movement that is more pro-establishment than anti-Trump, so they hate Cruz too.

Don’t blame mom on this one. He’s gone over the edge all on his own. He is crazy with hatred right now, and I think these guys (G. Will and his peak Trump remarks last weekend) have damaged their own creds beyond repair.

Besides, I visit Lucianne all the time and find it a lot less crazy than NRO, which has disgraced itself beyond HuffPo in its rabid positioning. I can’t even go to the site anymore.

I just heard some dipshiite on FOX news floating this idea 20 minutes ago. That’s why I posted this. This ticket is a suicide pact.

Best to pick a VP where you don't have to try explaining away what you said about him earlier.

“(not least the fact that there are better general-election running mates for Rubio).”

Does he actually gets paid for writing this lunacy?
Rubio the biggest-little loser to head the ticket, and Cruz isn’t suitable for VP. You can’t make this stuff up.

While technically, there are still enough delegates for Rubio to win the delegates without a floor fight, he would have to win virtually every single primary that remains. In other words, he would bring NOTHING to a Cruz / Rubio ticket and most likely would hold Cruz back on a Rubio / Cruz ticket.

This election needs to be wrapped up on 3/16/16 or, I’m pretty sure there’s going to be big problems in the Republican party.

OFTEN DID NOT SHOW UP FOR THE JOB HE WAS ELECTED TO DO

Ted Cruz has always been in GuvCo.

He is a better than average GuvCo lawyer with a billable integrity...not that there's anything wrong with that.

Based upon recent events, it looks like Cruz ran for the Senate as a resume enhancement and an opportunity to run for the job he really wanted.

I never liked working with people like that, who were just passing through and didn't respect the job they had been given as being anything more than just a stepping stone.

But hey, he's "conservative", right? What more do you want?
