Decorated veterans star in tough new anti-Trump ads (Video)

Decorated veterans are going after Donald Trump’s character in hard-hitting new Florida ads designed to drive down the Republican presidential front-runner’s popularity to stop him winning the crucial winner-take-all state on March 15.

In new attack ads, released by conservative nonprofit American Future Fund within a multimillion-dollar rotation, two veterans, Afghanistan Special Forces Commander Lt. Col. Michael Waltz and retired Vietnam pilot and prisoner of war Lt. Col. Tom Hanton, hit Trump for dodging the draft in Vietnam, “serving only himself,” and for criticizing Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for being captured during the Vietnam War.

American Future Fund spokesman Stuart Roy said in an email to The Hill Saturday that the group is swapping out its current ads in the Florida Panhandle for the new veteran ads and said it "will be adding new money there on Monday, as well."

“The Panhandle is full of active and retired military. Think Eglin Air Force Base, Pensacola Naval Air Station, Hulburt Field, Naval Support Activity Panama City, and Tyndall Air Force Base.”

In one of the ads, Waltz tells viewers to put a stop Trump's campaign.

“Donald Trump hasn’t served this country a day in his life, essentially dodged the draft in Vietnam through multiple deferments,” Waltz says, speaking directly into the camera. “All Donald Trump has served is himself. Don’t let Donald Trump fool you. Look into his real record and stop Trump now."

I am a Cruz supporter, but I try to evaluate charges against Trump fairly. The racism charges were pure rubbish and made me sick as I am sick of Republicans being called racist.

This ad is pretty darn accurate. Bone spurs really? Too many vets were so willing to get into wars they even lied about their ages and disabilities to get in. Bone spurs?

Based on that Chicken Donald should call himself a loser.

“He lied about having bone spurs to avoid the draft. “
He didn’t lie. The spurs were found during his draft physical. Can be quite painful

You could find dozens of decorated veterans who opposed President Reagan, if you searched hard enough, but that was no reason to vote against him. Trump and Cruz both do well with veterans. I’m going to ignore these silly ads. [Cruz is my first choice, but not because Trump was never in uniform - neither was Cruz, Rubio, Hillary, or Bernie.]

We are still pulling the knife out of our backs that have McCain's name on it. Where were these gentlemen during the Clinton and Obama administration?

As a 20 plus years retiree I am calling them out.

And they just took his word for it? Why didn’t all the draft dodgers claim to have bone spurs?

I just read it and there isn’t anything there!

Where is the part where it proves he dodged the draft, not a bunch of “well maybe”, and “perhaps”?

There are a lot of things to not like about Cruz.

He wasn’t. He received a college deferment.

Thanks for the link, it shows exactly what I though, quote:

“Sept. 17, 1968, he reported for an armed forces physical examination and was medically disqualified, according to the ledger from his local Selective Service”

“This ad is pretty darn accurate”

Which part? The one where they didn’t furnish any proof, or the part where they forgot to?

““Donald Trump hasn’t served this country a day in his life, essentially dodged the draft in Vietnam through multiple deferments”

First, most eligible men didn’t serve in the VN war. And secondly, the service Trump performed by derailing Bush’s campaign is much more important than my service. (And I served in VN)

Which is why he plays golf, though it is a bit perplexing, since he still has sex and doesn’t wear ugly pants.
