Reminds me of the time my dad brought home a good-sized blob of mercury (he was a doctor). It was his rather novel idea to put liquid mercury in the front-end of my brother’s Pinewood Derby car.
I remember having so much fun rolling that around in the palm of my hands.
In science class, we actually got to hold a ball of mercury in our hands and roll it around. We thought it was very cool!
We used to rub blobs of mercury on pennies with our fingers to turn them silver. Didn't harm me much. *twitch* A couple years ago they roped off a school bus here and called in a hazmat team because a kid was playing with mercury on it. Total over reaction methinks.
I knew a old man that had a mason jar full of mercury in his garage, for what reason I still don’t know, but it weighed a TON (at least as a kid it did)
When I was little I had a plastic maze with a blob of mercury that you moved around by tilting it. Somehow, I’m still alive.

I did the same thing with the mercury blob. In addition, I brushed my teeth with paste that came out of a lead tube. Did you?
