If you grew up in the 1960s or 1970s, then you know how relaxed everything used to be. Our parents never forced us to wear seatbelts, we pretty much at whatever we wanted, and were given way more responsibiity than we should have been given. It's a little sad kids today won't get to experience half the things we did, but looking back, there's a good reason why they won't.

Were these 12 things we did as kids kind of dangerous? Yeah, maybe some of it was.

Swimming in the gravel pit, building forts on the ground and in the trees, walking a mile and a half through a cow pasture to elementary school in the rain, sleet, snow and subzero temperatures, listening to freaked out psychedelic music we bought with our allowance and babysitting money, playing tackle football in the yard with no equipment, going fishing wherever we could walk to as long were were home for dinner, having a morning paper route year-round before the age of 12, house-sitting for neighbors on vacation as a pre-teen, having one or more girlfriends at school you could ‘marry’ during recess, having whole milk in the fridge to pour onto your bowl of Cocoa Puffs, Trix or Captain Crunch, posters of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and Jefferson Airplane while still in elementary school, Dodge Ball twice a week in the gym and Kickball outside every day that it didn’t rain, pictures of naked hippie chicks cut from LIFE Magazine on the bedroom wall, stealing a swig of beer or wine from the adult poker table in the basement at Grandpa’s, sitting in for the adults at the poker table in the basement at Grandpa’s...etc, etc, etc.

LOL! I lived in Cocoa Beach in third grade. We rode our bikes to school which was at least a mile away. Next year we moved to Jax and our neighborhood was on a river. We built rafts and floated all over the place. Gators were everywhere. My Dad said “watch out for gators and moccasins”. So we did.

It's all about nostalgia.

We miss the great America we grew up in.

Notice nobody has mentioned a television or video game yet?

Television was for rainy Saturday mornings. Classic Looney Tunes, Little Rascals and Three Stooges.

Love that picture!

Growing up, we lived at the end of a dead end road. At the end of that road was a telephone pole laying across the road as a barrier, then a slope drop off into a field after that. That was our ramp spot. I can imagine many similar pics to this one being taken there.

One day when we were hitting the ramp, a guy on a motorcycle came down the street. We motioned for him to keep going and hit the ramp. He did and just keep going across the field to the street on the other side.

But today I can't find anyone who can thread pipe, figure stuff out, or encourage creativity in the workforce?

Isn't there an app for that?

We’ve feminized this country.

We've let the leftists do it. "Jarts" really tells the whole story.

At a school science fair, one kid brought a model volcano a foot or two across, powered by some kind of slow-burning nitro compound.

A coworker once described an Independence Day trick they would do rural Indiana. Put a junked tank-type vacuum cleaner out in a field, with the hose in a cup of gasoline, and powered by a very long extension cord.

“We’ve let the leftists do it”

Yes, we have. We were told to be nice to the idiots in the country. I think the pendulum is swing back again. We’ve got to tell the stupid people to just shut up.

“Matchstick guns.”

Guns? Heck, we used to just light them and throw them at each other! Mean as heck and our mothers wanted to know how we got those brown spots on our clothes.

I spent two years going to school in Florida. It’s a university of self accomplishment to grow up there. Use it or lose it.

Yeah and we went to church every Sunday and said the Lord’s Prayer in school too. No values in today’s world, anything (government approved) goes!

No mention of Muscle Cars yet. High horsepower engines, skinny tires, and drum brakes. I remember finding out about brake fade at 120MPH while quickly closing on the rear of a semi. Had to pull over until I stopped shaking.
