I am a life long conservative. My first choice along with my best friend since Kindergarten was Cruz, but as I found out more and more about him I started getting a bad feeling. When Sarah Palin who knows them both very well and personally, endorsed Trump it meant a lot to me. When Cruz’s minions here went into full on attack mode against Sarah Palin and her family it offended me deeply.

I have been personally involved in a lot of political races over the years; I have even made signs and knocked on doors. I have known a lot of politicians and have seen a lot of dirty tricks. I have researched this race thoroughly and my man is now Donald Trump. I respect that you don’t agree with that decision, but I believe in both my heart and mind that Trump will give this dying Republic its best chance.

I currently have eight grandchildren with more on the way. I want them to have as good a chance of prospering than I have had. I worry a lot more about their future than whether or not you will judge me as being less conservative than you. The results tonight from the daily survey show that people here support Trump over Cruz by more than 2 to 1. I believe that most here have thought long and hard about this decision and that they are still true conservatives.

I believe him. I also think he was paying his sister a compliment. Is that so strange?

Some of the greatest Christian warriors are those who converted late in life. Don’t pretend that Trump hasn’t been saying conservative things for years and years. He has. Watch his rallies. Listen to what he says now. If you want to vote for Cruz, fine. I don’t have to hate Cruz and I don’t. I just think that Cruz and the rest are a lesser brand of the same pale beer we’ve had. I want someone to go to Washington, kick A$$, and take names. Someone who is so egotistical that he will want to be the greatest president that ever lived. If I’m wrong I’m wrong. I believe him. I hope I’m right.

This election is 100% about the border and America first... Above all else! Nail that down first, THEN we can discuss what happened inside the country.

Without that, everything else is meaningless.

That means if you speak Spanish, thanks for playing but no thanks. If you have a track record as a globalist tool, no thanks. Deal with it.

Change is not always beneficial. Just look at the Dinosaurs.

There is a monumental shift in politics going on right now and Donald Trump is in the breach. Watch listen and learn, this type of revolt doesn’t come every generation.

Only express positive things about your candidate rather than negative things about the other. Let the candidates do what they want.

To some of us Trump is the hero and Cruz is the viable option.

Trump wants to charge the breach.
Cruz wants to continue to lay siege.
The rest just want to mill about smartly.

This kind of concern trolling is disingenuous in my opinion. It’s not about us supporting a leftist. If we thought he was a leftist we wouldn’t be supporting him. We have just drawn different conclusions than you about Trump’s leanings based on the evidence. Because Trump made a statement supporting this or that liberal position 10 years ago is not proof that he’s a liberal. It’s just one piece of evidence among many as to where he stands.

I acknowledge that Trump’s past, like most people’s is a mixed bag which doesn’t give a clear yes or no answer about his political leaning at first glance. But to speak about Trump being a leftist as established fact is dishonest. You’ve come to your conclusions based on the evidence and your judgment. We’ve come to ours, and our conclusions are not based on willful blindness, hero worship, or ignoring of the facts as you claim. We would take you more seriously if you acknowledged that our arguments that Trump is not a leftist, are reasonable even if you don’t agree with them.

There are reasonable arguments that could be made, that Trump is a leftist but in our opinion, once you examine things more closely, the contrary opinion, that Trump is a center right candidate who is motivated by patriotism and the desire to do right, is more reasonable and compelling. You’d do better to acknowledge that our position has a rational basis and at least acknowledge that, even if you ultimately disagree with our conclusions.

You get a standing O from me, my FReeper FRiend. As I have said before, who could have dreamed that it would be the conservatives who would have to swim upstream at FR? I’m flummoxed, confused, bewildered and scared spitless of what I’ve seen happening here. Here’s hoping you or any of us who come to agree with your assessment don’t get our memberships pulled as a result.

This is what it looks like when a party loses its base because it betrayed them.

It’s no more complicated than that.

Wouldn't it be nice if everything was black and white? Wouldn't it be nice if we had a conservative candidate who was perfect that stood out over everyone else and had no negatives? I was for Cruz before Cruz even declared, but now I'm not sure he's even eligible to be President and it seems he's a little less than honest in covering his tracks or in campaign tactics. Will I still vote for him if he's the nominee? Sure. I'll vote for anyone over Hillary or Bernie.

If Trump will be the lefty you fear, why isn't he being embraced by the GOP establishment? Obviously they fear they won't be able to control him and keep the status quo.

Yes, some of the things he says makes me wince but I can say that for every single one of them.

What is your biggest issue? Abortion? Ok, I can respect that. I think it's very important, too. How many "pro-life" GOP Presidents have we had since Roe v Wade? Yet, we still have Roe v Wade. Trump does not defend PP's abortion activities. The problem isn't PP, it's ABORTION. It's STILL LEGAL. Should it be de-funded? Absolutely. Is that THE most important issue?

For me personally, I believe the most important issue is securing our literal and figurative borders from illegal immigrants and terrorists.

Answer this question if you will - which of the candidates plans would do the most in that regards?

The role of federal government is supposed to be limited but it is supposed to have ONE MAJOR JOB above all else, and that is our national defense. That obviously starts with having a secure border. I can say it no better than Trump. If we don't have a border, we don't have a country. Nothing else matters. NOTHING.

Unfortunately, it has come to that. I wish it weren't that dire. We have to start putting this country back together again, and that's where it has to start. If you have a house that has no locks on the doors and no windows, and the house is continually ransacked by whoever wants to wander in, you have a major problem. The house needs to be renovated, repaired and cleaned up. What good is doing ANY of that if you don't start by securing the house to keep the invaders, robbers and pillagers out?

Maybe the guy who kicks the asses of the invaders out of your home and installs the locks and windows for you isn't the same guy that you want to pick out and install your wallpaper but where will you hang the wallpaper without any walls?

Some FReepers, including the big boss JimRob, were smart enough to see the fix 4 years ago, or earlier. I only see it now. We are being played. There is only one party in DC. It’s a ruling cabal where lip service is given to “conservatism” on the right, but the fix is in for the cabal who don’t have the USA citizens’ best interests at heart, only their continued income and power.

Every four years, we conservatives gather round and try to choose the most conservative candidate. We feel so virtuous, honestly weighing the candidates’ curricula vitae. BUT IT’S A GAME THEY PLAY ON US. There is mostly no way a real conservative will be allowed to win, and if a guy from the “right” like W Bush wins, you can believe he is already bought and paid for or under their thumbs.

The right candidate to have even a chance of breaking through the oligarchy’s hold on us will be a candidate who dares speak strongly to the media, and whom no one in power on left or right will support. Reagan was the last man to do this. He wasn’t perfect; no one is.

Your FReeper friends have not deserted the idealism of having a seriously conservative President. They just know that going with a Ted Cruz in 2016 is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

WE HAVE LOST OUR COUNTRY and we need to fight the oligarchy to get it back. There is a real chance Trump could achieve something. Not because he is uber conservative; that is non applicable. It’s because he is bold, patriotic, and very rich so he can protect his family from what may threaten them.

We haven’t turned liberal. We have prioritized.

1. Fight the oligarchy that keeps us serfs, and their media arm
Over
2. Feeling really really good about the conservative creds of a candidate who will lose or be owned in office

Please understand how important #1 is.

3 reasons why people are supporting Trump.

1. Jobs

2. Jobs

3. Jobs

Trump has created more jobs all by himself in the real and productive economy private sector than all 44 presidents COMBINED!
