Probably since the dawn of time or since teenagers have had access to alcohol.
Back when I was young...which was only a generation ago, nice girls didn’t drink that much as a routine. I once got drunk enough to be hungover and puking the next day, but not enough to make stupid decisions, or pass out. Once hungover, enough for a lifetime.
Boys were somewhat different. My brother got puking drunk, beat-up drunk, crashed while drunk, stupid while drunk, many times. And bad girls were different.
But now there is no difference. To tell a young woman she has a lot to lose by getting that drunk is to “slut shame,” which is supposed to be a bad thing. And young women in large numbers at party schools and English pubs and American bars tell each other that getting that drunk is normal and fun and the proper social thing to do.
