A parent demanded that a book taught at his son's school which described the Second World War D-Day landings as an invasion be taken off the curriculum. A Berlin court disagreed.

The history book taught in his son's school described the Normandy landings, in which the Allied forces made the biggest amphibious landing in history on France's Atlantic coast, as an "invasion".

This was both inappropriate and an insult to the soldiers who died in the assault, said the Kreuzberg parent.

The Allies could not be seen as invaders because they were liberating an occupied land, he argued. ...

Well yes D-Day was an ‘invasion’ to push Germany out of occupied Europe.

Of course it was an invasion. The Normandy Invasion.

Remember the old movie, I think it was Longest Day, when the French guy who lived near the beach looked out and saw the ships coming. He became so excited and happy. He ran around shouting *l’invasion! l’invasion!*.

In the film The Longest Day Peter Lawford’s character utters one word after receiving notce by phone that the landing was on- “Invasion!” It’s not a big deal.

“Were we not invading enemy occupied territory?”

Germany was the invader. We were the liberator.

The D-Day Memorial calls it and invasion:
https://www.dday.org/history/d-day-the-invasion/overview.html

The US Army refers to it as an invasion:

The Kraut is a self-hating idiot.

I love that film - especially the part where that guy is screaming into the radio at his superiors - until the naval bombardment begins, that is.

Literally yes.

But the one thing we should have learned from the Leftist in this country is that the emotional connotation of words matter greatly in shaping how events are viewed by the uninformed and impressionable youth.

This is probably just the beginning of a plan to reshape the history of WW II to somehow help the Left.

After all the modern Left has much more in common with Fascism than they do with republican Free-market Capitalism.

What does that mean? Revisionism has crept into both. After all, look who has been running government, education and military recently. I’ve never heard D-Day referred to as an “invasion” until recently; it was always the “landing”.

Orwell’s “Who controls the past controls the future” was paraphrased from the Communist Manifesto, remember.

We weren’t a liberator to the French government in power. We may have been to the communists and socialists, and the self-anointed ‘leader’, one star General de Gaulle.
