Cruz is a natural born citizen and doesn’t have any credibility problems (certainly not cause the Trump says so), if that’s what you’re driving at.
The do look rather similar, not like brothers but like cousins at least. And the same letter beginning their names, I can see getting them confused.
Yeah, a popular opponent and bad year doesn’t excuse 33.7%, barely a third of the vote, nearly 13 points behind McCain, that was absolutely putrid, he should have at least cracked 40%. His entry into this race was preposterous. I presume he’s running to raise his profile rather than genuine belief he can win. He’s no more mentally ill than Gary Johnson or Virgil Goode, who ran 3rd party.
I have to put Gilmore as my #5 choice, ahead of
Wide Load (But for the Obama ring kissing during the hurricane I could have him higher, that’s tough to forget or forgive), Boris Johnson, George III, and Gay’s Itch.
The comparison of Gillespie’s near-win in 2014 with the wave in 2008 is a false one. There is no Republican in the country that could’ve come in and come close to defeating Warner that year. Warner, who benefited from the economic recovery in 2003-05 during the Bush administration, was seen as a near-deity at the time. Tennessee fortunately is not a swing state.. Virginia was, and the Obamalove wave, coupled with the infestation in the north from DC and Maryland, tipped it into the “blue” column.
I’m not saying Warner could’ve been defeated in 2008. I’m saying that a first-tier candidate who ended up getting 1/3rd of the vote while McQueeg got a dozen points more demonstrates that this individual should permanently retire from electoral politics. Period.
BTW, please don’t use the post-2000 media newspeak colors. Blue is the Conservative color. Red is the epitome of leftism. Take their usage back by using them correctly.
Nah, I tend to think of Blue as “lacking oxygen,” “sickly” and “dying.” I like that Red was taken back from the left. Think of Red as rich with vitality.. forceful.. resolute.
Sorry, dude. I’m a Die Hard Blue Conservative. The Red color is the blood of the hundreds of millions of leftist totalitarianism: Communism, Naziism, “Liberalism.” The notion that it is in any way affiliated with the right is offensive and vile. Revisionist political correctness at its very worst, and it came straight from the Orwellian Leftist Groupthink Media.
Red also signifies the blood shed in bringing independence to this country. That’s why it shows up on our flag.
A "Red state" means only one thing, and it ain't freedom.
Northern Virginia is not Maryland. It’s El Salvador.
Impy, I’m glad that you said 5th choice. I thought he’d be lower.
“Still, no one loses a race like Gilmore did in 2008 without a demonstrable level of incompetence.”
Or Rick the Dick Santorum in PA.
The last time Jim Gilmore ran for office, it didn’t go well. There’s no reason at all to think he’d win if he were the nominee. But I do prefer him to Jeb Bush.
Two of the last three republican presidents were governors. The last two republican presidents were from the South. Gilmore and Bush were governors from the South, so, if one of them wins the nomination, he’d probably win the general election. I don’t know of any conservative who supports Jeb.
The 4 I place under him (you should be able to figure out who they are from the nicknames I gave them) have greater faults and fewer virtues, IMO.
That's a very interesting point that hadn't occurred to me.
Point of fact though, it wasn't taken back, it was assigned, so the democrats would not have to be associated with socialism and communism, and on the flip-side blue (which surveys show is the most named favorite color) was taken. The color of the sky, and the sea, associated with Al Gore and Hillary Clinton? How ghastly.
I propose for Republicans, red, white and blue. And for democrats, brown, the color of feces. NY, MA, IL, CA, MD and the like henceforth shall be known as "brown states".
And the Green Party can’t use green, I like green. They can use “guano tan”.
“I propose for Republicans, red, white and blue. And for democrats, brown, the color of feces. NY, MA, IL, CA, MD and the like henceforth shall be known as ‘brown states’.”
I love it!
