TRUE: In February 2016, a rumor started circulating online that Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz had said that he was a "Christian first" and an "American second." While these words were a genuine quote from the Texas, they were typically presented in a manner that lacked context. The quote first appeared in a 20 January 2016 article by Politico about a campaign stop Cruz made in New Hampshire. Cruz was asked to respond to comments that former Kansas senator Robert Dole had made to the New York Times in a recent interview questioning Cruz's loyalty to the GOP, and he responded by saying that his allegiance to the United States and to conservative principles trumped his party membership (and that his commitment to his religion ranked higher than them all): ["It is exactly right that in terms of who I am, I am a Christian first. I am an American second. I'm a conservative third. And I'm a Republican fourth. And I'll tell ya, there are a lot of Americans who feel the same way."] We've found no video that captured this remark from Cruz, but the quote was also documented by the Washington Post. Cruz has made no secret of his plans to court conservative Christians during his presidential campaign.  He announced his run in March 2015 at Christian college Liberty University, saying he hopes to fight the federal government's "assault" on religious liberty, and he also pledged to "defend the sanctity of life" and "uphold the sacrament of marriage."

What Ted Cruz said sounds about right to me.
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Philippian 3:20 ESV
God, family, and country, in the right order. Atheists are the children of Marx and the enemies of America.
Good. I am the same. If my American citizenship should ever require that I deny my True Sovereign, then too bad, Christ comes first.
Get over it, Snopes losers.
Christians make good citizens and leaders as good or better than anybody, because we care about other people. Not all religions are equal, and atheists have no standard for morality than their own.
Anyone who puts a creature before God is committing idolatry.
I agree with you on this.
God isn't running for office. I would certainly vote for him if he was. Are you saying Cruz is GOD?
That's part of the problem. People who abandon their faith and betray their stated principles in the voting booth are destroying America.
Maybe Cruz should throw a couple hundred into the communion plate like Trump.
That’s cute but Cruz doesn’t give to the church.....well ok maybe 1 percent for ALL donations. He is not a Christian. He is an opportunist.
Every Christian would say that. We "desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one" (Hebrews 11:16). "Our citizenship is in heaven" (Philippians 3:20).
Don’t be an idiot. Right now, you’re being an idiot.
Frankly, sir, I think your idiocy is deliberate.
I am saying that loyalty to God supersedes loyalty to any creature, including Nation or Country. Mr. Cruz apparently places his first loyalty to God, and his second loyalty to America. If that is correct, he is right to do so.
Only a complete flaming idiot would come up with the drivel you posted in #67.
How can one be an unrepentant liar & a representative of Christ at the same time?
I don't disagree on that and my words are being twisted. But that is my personal belief in GOD.
Re>Mr. Cruz apparently places his first loyalty to God, and his second loyalty to America. If that is correct, he is right to do so.
Him just saying it doesn't make it so. I see Mr. Cruz otherwise and not the Christian he claims to be.
>> If Cruz believed this why did he bla bla bla BLA bla bla
The burdens and sins you’re laying on Cruz are of your own making. They are not factual, but merely outgrowths of your opinion.
In other words you haven’t supported your basis, so what you conclude from your flawed basis is meaningless.
>> That is all I am saying on it.
Praise GOD!!!
He says he puts God first. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't.
You were objecting to the IDEA of putting God first.
You wrote, in #3 (entire post quoted): "I am looking for someone who puts AMERICA first. Cruz would make a good second rate preacher.
By your own admission, you're looking for an idolator.
I bet you're a Trump supporter looking for any stick with which to beat Cruz, and don't really care what that stick is.
The Carson campaign said he was flying to FL. The Cruzers changed that into “Carson is dropping out”. One was the truth, the other a lie. Quit digging yourself into a deeper hole.
Being an American will NOT get you into HEAVEN for ETERNITY!!! Geesh......at least he has his priorities straight.
You sure know NOTHING about HOLY Communion.
