My neighbor told me years ago when her daughter was selling cookies that the local troop only got less than 50 cents for every box they sold..they were over $2 then...
she said she tells people if they want to help the Girl Scouts to just give the $2 in money as the local group was able to use any cash donations ...
I do this when accosted at my supermarket. Give them cash. Don’t want any cookies. Put the money to good use kiddos. Often, they are speechless.
I learned my lesson when the boys were in Cub Scouts....maybe ages 6,8,10. They came home all excited with their Tom Watt kits and proceeded to empty them all over the living room floor.
Inside of 60 seconds, all the junk was mixed up and it took two hours to sort the junk back to individual kits. From that day forward, I sent the kids with large checks to the troop, with a note, explaining why.
Since that time, unfortunately, both the GS and BSA have morally fallen off the rails. Makes me sad.
Of course cash donations are better, the cookies just make them more palatable.
