You contradict yourself. Cruz’s bashing Trump has cost him as well, how did you miss it?
Ah - I see what you aren’t getting.
It’s the fact that many START in the “absolutely never Trump” camp. Obviously, bashing will cost both candidates support, but when someone is bashed away from Cruz, they will - more likely than not - NEVER go to Trump because of his massive unfavorables.
People me be bashed away from Trump and wind up in the Cruz camp because more people will accept Cruz. Just look at any FR thread where the question is “If candidate X doesn’t get it, will you go for Y?”
In these informal surveys, you’ll see a handful of “never Cruzes” and a flood of “never Trumps.” This is an extension of the unfavorability polls.
