It,s a remake of Zero Hour, very, very closely - lines and scenes.And Police Squad! was closely based on M-Squad. I think hewing so closely to serious films and shows made their spoofs even funnier.

I've seen this movie Airplane! a hundred times but this is the first time I heard of the movie Zero Hour!
I'm going to have to check it out.
