President Barack Obama says he'll ask Congress for billions in new spending to help students learn computer science skills.
Obama announced the plan in his weekly radio and Internet address on Saturday. He says developing analytical and coding skills is a must for jobs in the new economy. ...

So they will combine the readability of APL, the simplicity of Ada, the terseness of Cobol, and the easily understood interactive execution environment of Forth into the new learning language. It will simultaneously be un-writable, un-readable, un-debuggable and much more baroque and backwards than the original version, CC.
And then they'll hire the guys who wrote the Obamacare website to teach the course.
Just offer paid scholarships to few brave American kids still willing to major in any STEM discipline with a required B average to stay in program. Eliminate H-1B and bingo, problem solved.
My 14 year old grandson and most youth already know more about computers than senior citizens do. He’s building his own computer now, knows every thing he wants in it. Just hasn’t the finances to afford it.
My husband taught the stuff for 20 years before retiring. Learned the basics of Electronics in HS. Honed it in his 20 year Navy career. His daughter owns her own successful small IT business that just keeps growing.
They won’t be able to program if they can’t read.
The graduates of the Memphis, TN school system have A/B math averages, yet need Remedial Math classes even for JR. College. Hubby taught Jr. College for 20 years in electronics/computers and math. Foreign students did better, more motivated.
And for the person who posted the list of what they research they forgot to add Porn to the list.
He only wants to help SOME students learn computer science.
White heterosexual males need not apply.
Maybe out of $4,000,000,000 in directed handouts, the DNC won’t have just $4,700,000 in the bank.
Obama already wasted a billion on the broken Obamacare website. How much of this 4 billion will be used to patch it?
I thought CommonCore programming was a visual language with boxes and things.
At the computer firm I work for, they won’t advance far if they don’t also take Chinese or Hindu language lessons. Off shore and management teams don’t speak strictly speak English (some but not fluent) and communications are conducted sometimes in foreign tongues.
White engineers with 20 years of skills need not apply.
$4billion is chicken feed compared to what Obama looted ($10,000,000,000,000).
Our debt went up TEN TRILLION DOLLARS? Where did the money go? A billion here or there (Solestra or whatever) but a trillion is a thousand billion. We are talking ten thousand billions!
My gosh! It’s not as if the kids don’t have computers at home nowadays, and if a kid is interested enough in working on computers and tinkering with them, programming, etc., he or she WILL! All of the computer geeks I knew in high school and college learned on their own for the most part....
Why? He's just going to have foreigners take their jobs anyway.
Yes, whites and Asians need not apply.
And poor rural areas, too bad, you’re just not brown enough.
Very true. Just like with anything else, if you want to succeed you need skill & dedication; two things the left despise.
Post #15 I recognize as old school “C” but this, I don’t know.
For any math solutions, I suppose the “random” number generator will be involved.
If kids are interested in computers, they don’t need government help to learn it.
It is hard to be interested in computers if you don't have one.
Yeah but soetoro wants 4 extra large to spend on kids that probably have difficulty with 3rd grade math.
Exactly.
I would even suppose kids from a school district with parents that care and work hard should NOT be allowed any of those funds.
