A man who makes deals for a living does his deals in the world as he finds it. He accepts the world as it is, and tries to make the best deal possible. He doesn't try to change the world; he deals with it.
Leaders, on the other hand, such as Washington, Lincoln, and Reagan, do not accept dealing with the status quo. Reagan didn't want to deal with the Soviet Union. He wanted to destroy it. Jimmy Carter, on the other hand, believed in detente, in building relationships and making deals. He scoffed at Reagan and his inordinate fear of communism. In 1980, we wisely chose a leader, not a dealer.
A President Trump would make a lot of deals, or try to. But you don't make America great again by making deals. American greatness rests on American principles, as set forth in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Trump seems unfamiliar with these principles. He's more of a technician, and the fundamental law of this country is of little interest. What's that got to do with making good deals?
Trump would fit right in with the Washington deal-makers who are so contemptuous of Ted Cruz. Sen. Mitch McConnell knows how to make deals as well as Trump, and he knows how Washington works â you make deals. Like Senate majority leaders Trent Lott and Bob Dole before him, McConnell sees in Trump a man he can deal with.

I really worry that he's a big-government guy at heart.
Trump just said that he could mke deals with Schumer and Pelosi to “get things done”.
So true. If you can’t walk away you are just surrendering.
The debates aren't a deal. They're pure politics, and Trump made a purely political calculation that he'd personally be better off not attending.
What hogwash! Trump’s deals will all be good deals because HE WROTE THE BOOK ON DEALING! Trump is so good at dealing making that he makes deals WITH HIMSELF. He supports abortion up until he wants to personally advance himself by running for president, then he makes a deal with himself to NOT support it anymore! Is ANY other candidate that good at deal making? NO! This is a GREAT deal for conservatives because NOW he doesn’t support abortion any more. We win!
Every deal Trump makes is bound to be a winner! Trump is *stubborn* and if he can negotiate with HIMSELF to readily change his positions and WIN, then that should be enough for ALL OF US!
Winning is the most important thing! GO TRUMP!
“Dealer” is simply an anagram on “leader”.
To lead, you first have to capture the imaginations of the majority, and if nothing else, The Donald has certainly done that. Who else is ANYBODY talking about this morning?
Maybe. It seems that participating now is in effect, okaying Fox’s treatment of the leading candidate. It shows a lack of integrity imo to side with Fox in this. Which, if they show up is exactly what they are doing.
I just don't like the Fox statement about twitter followers and his cabinet. That was bush league.
I would vote for a leader but there are not any running. Because of that, a dealer would suffice.
The direction in which he wants to lead is of greater concern to me than how good a leader he is, and I don’t trust him on that.
Third grade level rhymes don’t make for political policy.
Only relevant question is who has the best chance to win the general. Trump. The rest lose to Hillary.
Leadership skills.
That’s not what the polls show. Cruz beats Hillary by several points. Trump is tied with her.
Ted Cruz demonstrates his leadership skills every day! There are tens of Freepers who follow him every day!
Now fill us in on the details past the platitude.
Because I’ve yet to hear one damn thing from Cruz about how that is going to work in practice.
that’s a fair point
Obama captured the imagination of the majority. The ludicrous idea that two people of the same sex can be married has seemed to capture the minds of the majority. At various times the so-called right to kill your baby has captured the minds of the majority. As wrong as the majority seems to be so often these days I think it seems more just to be in the minority.
For anyone else, Trump hasnt walked away some triumphant hero. He pouted because Megyn Kelly was going to be a moderator again, went to Twitter to ask his loyal subjects whether or not he should show up, got upset at Fox News’s response to that, took his ball because people were being mean to him and he might not get his way, sulked off and went home. Now he wants to try to use wounded veterans to prove some perverse point.
Now I will say that indeed he is the type who might be willing to walk away from the table when need be. After all, if the Iranians or the Chinese were to insult him, I have little doubt that he would immediately leave the negotiating table, take to Twitter, and furiously declare them to be losers and idiots.
He will replace Obamacare with something “really great”.
He will also win so much, you will just be sick of winning.
He will get really smart people to replace really stupid people.
