Ebay did not like a friend's feedback commentary (it WAS a violation of the rules) and has indefinitely suspended a friend's account. Ebay did not like the conservative commentary in the feedback. No warning notice of violation was given, the friend did NOT know all feedback had to be relevant to the transaction. Representative said suspension could not be appealed and was more or less permanent. Please send me a private message to discuss this. I'll give that person advice on what to do after folks comment.
If it was a liberal comment too bad. If it was a conservative response I declare it Selective Outrage.

eBay owns the site, they make the rules
ebay sucks and allows buyers great latitude in defrauding sellers. Amazon is much, much worse. Thanks liberal Jeff Bezos, owner of Amazon and Washington ComPost.
I agree, start a new account. New bank account, screen name. The fraudulent buyers do this all the time.
It’s better to limit commentary to Amazon or craigslist.
Feedback is for information related to the transaction. Period. I don’t care if I agree or disagree with the position of the person pontificating any more than I care if the idiot talking on a cell phone while driving all over the road is agreeing with Rush or Ed Schultz.
What did your friend say in the feedback?
It's not that easy. You also need a new address, new paypal acct, new IP address, etc.
There's a weekly chat with eBay staff from 1-2 (Pacific time). He could try posting about his issue there. I'm surprised that violation would result in a permanent suspension.
I guess read Ebay policy - lots of fine print
Why would a person put any type of political commentary in a a feedback comment about an Ebay business transaction?
Every negative comment I’ve read there said things like, “Item was poorly packed, was not as described, seller waited 4 weeks before shipping, item was broken, etc...
Correct.
Thanks to all who made suggestions. Will inform friend. It was conservative political commentary. Someone was very unhappy.
Just saw this. I don’t think it matters so much whether the commentary was conservative or liberal so much as it had little to do with the transaction, which for eBay is the whole point of feedback. Your friend was using very poor judgment in leaving frivolous feedback, and was correctly reported. I don’t know if there is any way to appeal it. There is a section where ebayers help other ebayers with common questions or problems, so they may have some advice. I’m pretty sure your friend may be out of luck, though. Sorry, sometimes life’s lessons are hard.
I guess your friend needs to find a good friend to use to do his further transactions through if he can’t get eBay to allow him access. Hopefully it is not his livelihood.
It was not his livelihood at all. Biggest issue is that no warning to not do that was given. Sudden account death.
I disagree that there’s no warning. eBay has an extensive help search. Every ebayer should look into ebay’s policies. There are many, but there is easy access to almost every question/answer one might have.
Was there anything in the email or message from eBay that stated the problem and how to go about being reinstated?

***We have policies in place for leaving feedback. For example, open and honest feedback is encouraged, but abusive or profane language is never allowed. Weâll also investigate sellers who try to force you to leave positive feedback.
Feedback that violates our policies will be removed, and the member may be subject to buying and selling restrictions and/or account suspension.***
Perhaps your friend can find some help on one of those pages.
He looked already and called. Supervisor on the phone told him that was it, suspension was indefinite. He also told him ebay would like for him to do business elsewhere.
There isn’t any dispute. Your friend broke the rules and is banned. Ebay can be very understanding, as when I was scammed a couple years ago. They saw my long good history there and gave me the benefit of the doubt, I explained my innocence at being scammed and all was well thereafter. I think they “limited” me to only earning $2000 a month there for X number of months. I never earned that much so it didn’t matter.
There are sites where you can change your IP address but why would this guy want to fool ebay?
