Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling says the current uproar over the diversity of this yearâs Academy Awards is unfair to the white actors who were nominated.
âIt is racist to whites,â Rampling, who is nominated for best actress for her role in the British film 45 Years, told French radio station Europe 1 on Friday morning, in comments that were translated from French.

Man, I dunno - an Academy Awards presentation without Spike Lee is like a gourmet meal without a dog turd centerpiece.

These people are wearing me out. I’m just so tired of their whining and complaining about everything every time they don’t get their way.

On early to mid â60s TV, the black characters were generally quiet, buttoned-down types who were working hard to achieve The American Dream. As a kid, I remember "Julia".....and yes, I had the biggest 'schoolboy crush' on her.

I haven’t seen or heard too much sympathy for blacks on this. People are pointing out the BET Awards, NAACP Image Awards, Miss Black America, etc., in which whites need not even apply.
I saw online yesterday, someone figured out how many Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress nominees have been black over the years. It came to something like 12, 13 percent...an exact reflection of blacks’ percentage of the population. But of course, that’s not enough. It’s never enough. If every nominee were black this year, nobody would complain or feel sorry for whites. It would be considered just fine and dandy.

Beautiful and talented actress who has worked hard all her life perfecting her craft. Remember her with Paul Newman in The Verdict? Yep, they're right. If she were black there would be no way she would be nominated. I guess I'm one of these naïve people that actually still believes that the people nominated and who win Oscars are the most deserving. I'm of the opinion that it's an award that is highly coveted. I'm of the opinion that there is NO racism involved in the selection and voting. I'm of the opinion that if there are no blacks, Greeks or Puerto Ricans nominated this year, then it means there was no one representing this race who were good enough to be nominated. How many times do you have a year where EVERY SINGLE CRITIC says this movie or this actor will win, then it goes to someone else...and people say..."YOu know they were right, that was the best movie." Any attempt to add quotas to the Oscars will taint it. If you want to add some token ethnic choices, fine, but in the end award the winners. BTW, I haven't checked, but were black actors and movie people excluded from Golden Globe Awards also? I'm check and be back in a minute.... Nope as far as movies go, only Will Smith and Idris Eldra were nominated but didn't win. Denzil Washington won the Cecil B. Demille Award. So, I guess that meand Golden Globes are racist also.

Nazi Charlotte! We need some photos of her from the mid-1960s when she was a “mod” girl.

Wasn’t she great in The Verdict? I remember the shock in the theater when Paul Newman socked her. James Mason denounced the movie when he saw that scene! But that’s David Mamet for you. One of my favorite movies.

It’s one of those movies that you find yourself watching even though you’ve seen it a thousand times.
I loved that movie. The priest, the black doctor who gives “expert” testimony. The crooked judge. James Mason, Charlotte, Newman and his partner who’s name escapes me and of course the nurse. The sock on the jaw. Being surprised in the end. Newman wins the case.
GREAT!!!!!

I can’t turn it off if it comes on tv. When Newman calls the judge a bagman. “I know about you!” When the nurse testifies! When Newman runs into the bathroom to escape Charlotte badgering him as a loser! Fabulous movie when movies were still excellent. Went with my mom to see it and we loved it.

I love the old black non board certified obstetrician from some woman’s hospital who doesn’t know what “code blue” means, but “know’s a wrong when he sees it.”
and then in the middle of the testimony, the judge breaks in and answers for him. Newman says, “I’d appreciate it if you don’t try to lose my case for me.”
Mason, was great.

The Verdict IS a great movie. And Rampling's character DID deserve a slap across the face for what she did.
One of my favorite scenes is Newman at the bar having a "breakfast" of cracking a few raw eggs in a beer, chugging it, then heading to work.
He was like the anti-Rocky

Newman does one of the best acting jobs of an alcoholic...He has to have his eye opener, and he’s shaking so bad he can’t pick up the glass, has to lean over close to it. I think he puts an egg in his beer too.
How, about the line, “Well, it’s your lucky day.”

Oh, he’s brilliant. Yes, those early scenes in the bar are great. I also likes when he breaks open the woman’s mailbox and finds Lindsay Crouse.
