When people in Newark NJ made a stink about abandoned homes that were being looted by scrappers and used for drug dealing/using, the city said they would go after the negligent owners...then admitted that they had already seized the homes for tax liens. THEY were the owners.
A year or two ago there was a push to sell the lots for minimal amounts, but you basically had to “re-colonize” Newark if you bought one. You had a certain amount of time to construct a home on it, then had to live there for a certain amount of time as well (similar to some HUD home requirements). All the people lined up to buy them looked like they already lived in Newark; they couldn’t draw in any real money (suckers).

Find any book on how the Communists literally took control of the economy and leadership of Detroit’s government (i.e. Comrade Coleman Young, 30 year mayor who destroyed the city; Maryanne Mahaffey and Erma Henderson, two reds who were on the City Council and then leaders of it under Young; Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich), once the head of the Detroit City Council and communist/KGB dupe (1975); and the rest of the leftists who ruled the city into the ground.
Also, read about the leftist labor unions, esp. United Auto Workers (UAW) who drove up labor costs to the point that they could no longer compete with overseas cars from Japan and So. Korea, among others.
This is the understory you will never read as to how the Left destroyed a once great city.
Also, Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich), the top red left in Congress. Aided by the late red Rep. George Crockett Jr (also once a leftist judge), Rep. John Dingell (Mr. Hezbollah), and similar leftist representatives and senators (Don Riegle for one).
The airline I used to work for would layover crews at a little town outside of Newark and I was surprised it was so bustling and quaint. Can’t remember the name...this was mid-1990s.
We used to see that in Long Beach every time the Lakers won.
I worked doing rehab on Detroit ghetto welfare houses about 30 years ago. The fact that they were standing then after 30 years of neglect is a testimony to the craftsmen that built them.
It was awesome to drive down the block where each house was unique and different, not like today where they are the same design and same color.
Those s standing are beyond any hope of rehab.
When I was working there, I almost bought an awesome house, 3000 plus square feet, perfect condition. $35000. If I moved the house a block to grosse pointe, it would have been 10x the value.
Maybe West Orange or South Orange; on my side of Newark there is nothing that would be considered “quaint”. There is money west and southwest of Newark; they successfully fought to prevent the rail link between NYC and Newark from being extended further into their neighborhoods.

From the minute Coleman Young took over as Mayor.......until the Jail Cell door closed on Kwame K. Detroit has been in a downward spirial. Affirmative action, quota hiring for minorities, and basically Black people acting like Animals ........ and given a free pass for their actions. Unlimited Welfare, and endless tax hikes , all in the name of helping school kids. Yeah, show your kid the latest Riots in Baltimore, —— especially the part with Obama calling for peaceful demonstrations, and the split screen of Blacks burning and looting anything and everything...........show your kid if you got the guts to tell the Truth. White people and some educated Blacks refuse to live with Animals. Detroit is a gleaming example of the fruits of Liberal - Minority - run -Cities in the USA. I know , I lived it first hand, and I can tell you it’s never coming back. Just like me..........I left nearly 4 decades ago............it’s gone with the wind. Never Ever will Detroit ever be what it once was. Any City that greets it’s visitors with a hanging Black Fist in the once busy downtown square, is lost forever! Any Questions? I didn’t think so!
