Limbaugh: ‘Nationalism And Populism Have Overtaken Conservatism’ In GOP [VIDEO]
Daily Caller ^ | 1-20-2016 | CHRISTIAN DATOC

Posted on 01/20/2016 11:40:34 AM PST by Citizen Zed

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday that Trump's popularity is evidence that "nationalism and populism have overtaken conservatism" in the Republican Party

"The Trump triumph - the Trump coalition - is exposing the fact that it isn't conservative orthodoxy, or conservatism or any of the hard work of the conservative elite," explained Limbaugh, "that is causing people to be conservative."

LIMBAUGH: It's something really simple... They're fed up with the modern day Democratic Party... The Republican Party establishment does not understand this. They do not know who their conservative voters are. They've over-estimated their conservatism... They're not liberals. They're not Democrat. Many of them do not want to be thought of as conservatives for a host of reasons. So somebody who comes along and is able to convey that he or she understands why they're angry and furthermore, is going to do everything to fix it, is going to own them. What's happening here is that 'nationalism' - dirty word, ooh people hate it - and 'populism' - even dirtier word. Nationalism and populism have overtaken conservatism in terms of appeal.

What?

Immigration

Medical care

Bailouts

Government over reach

Now it’s Ethanol expansion...

I can imagine the judges he would appoint and nominate.

I don’t keep a list but there is more.

You can dress it up, put some different spin on it, but he’s always been a New Yorker nanny state’er. You can put a few ribbons on it, tell people they are stupid for not seeing the real Donald.

That’s OK......carry on, but it was not you who made the statement. But if this were someone else, lower tier guy or whatever, you would be all over his case for being inconsistent. As it is, it does not seem to matter so have at it but, try to keep your eyes open.

Mine are.

Trump is a non-Liberal that can't be destroyed by the media that will, at least, fight back against Liberalism and political correctness.

That's good enough for me.

I like Cruz and wish he had a shot to do the things he says. But he has no chance against the media, the Liberal establishment, and the GOP establishment.

As I've said before: If Trump does nothing else as President but stop illegal immigration and political correctness, he'll be wildly successful in my book.

I appreciate your comments and so far as Perot sounding like a hick/moron, to most you might be correct, especially if you're from either coast or large metropolitan area but you would be far off the mark!

I remembered back a few years (to around late '80's early 1990's) to when I read a book by a fav author of mine, Ken Follett, called "On Wings of Eagles," which was later made into a tv miniseries, in 1986, starring Richard Crenna. This book revolved around EDS's founder, Ross Perot's organizing and founding an entry into Iran to extract EDS employees!

Like Trump, Perot loathed most of Congress.andfelt they made deals with other countries and many corporations in secret and against the will of both the people but also against the Constitution!

Perot certainly never liked nor trusted CIA director, George HW Bush and didn't trust the State Department nor the CIA!

Unlike the hick/hayseed you claim Perot to be, the man has quite a distinguished history: he became one of the nation's youngest Eagle Scouts fourteen months after entering the program, receiving the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award; graduating from the US Naval Academy with honors and established its honor system; after serving in the Navy, he joined IBM becoming its top employee and fulfilled his annual sales quota in two weeks. Deciding IBM was lagging behind in computer technology, he established EDS, in 1962, computerized Medicare records and went public selling for $16.00 a share rising to $160.00 within days; after losing out in a power struggle, Steve Jobs found his "angel investor" in Ross Perot.

Perot's net worth in 2015, was estimated at $2.4 billion.

Along the way, Perot was one of the government's biggest foe in "forgetting it's own behind enemy lines"and became a tireless worker for POW/MIA, especially in Vietnam. Obviously in so doing, pushed the government and especially the Pentagon and Defense Department, breaking lots of glass houses and making lots of enemies along the way.

He became a pariah to the Bush family, namely Geo. H.W. Bush, mostly because of his desire that all missing vets be accounted for and returned home. He also believed that the reason behind the government's push back was to cover up for running drugs to finance a war in Laos. His run-ins with the government, especially Richard Armatage!

While I never supported Perot, believing Bush, et al, would be best, I acknowledge my desire to trust government lots less when I met up with some Vietnam vets who told me what all Perot had done for them and their families.

Quirky, yes, autocratic, probably but honorable, patriot Ross Perot is nobody's fool, much less, moron!

That's their perfect candidate.

Interesting post.

Most Christians recognize our living Lord and Savior Jesus Christ not as our candidate but as our perfect Prophet, Priest and King.

Now we know that no sinful hypocritical man such as any of us (or Ted Cruz) will ever hold a candle to Jesus Christ. But we would count ourselves exceedingly and undeservedly blessed by a

Many of us FReepers we'll be a tiny fraction of the tiny fraction that votes to select our candidate. But I believe that whoever is nominated and elected will be the man of God's choosing whether for blessing or curse.

Luke 22

25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

In case you missed it, it was posted on the door when you walked in...

“As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.”

Donald Trump doesn’t meet that clearly defined guideline on far too many points.

Disagree. Read Statement of Principles. Remove the ethnocentric fixations and he was firmly in the camp of federalism.

It seems to me that Rush is sucking up to Trump.

Nationalism and Populism are what that fellow Mussolini offered. And I hesitate to mention Benito’s German pal who did the same thing.

Conservatism is about limited government, individual rights, and the rule of law. Telling Apple where to manufacture iphones isn’t conservative.

Well said. And that candidate doesn’t exist, and even if they did would never win national office.

Not so difficult to understand. Conservatism has been hijacked by corporate cronyism over a space of years. The emphasis of conservatism, like liberalism, has shifted from protection of liberty and virtue to cheerleading for the power structure. So conservatism, like liberalism, is being rejected in favor of something else.

Worse, “conservative” has become an epithet. When statist pukes like Ryan, Will, McTurdle etc. Claim the mantle of conservatism, the natural reaction is to be repelled by what they’re selling.
