For an event still several days out, computer models were in remarkable agreement late Tuesday on what could be one of the greatest snowstorms in decades for the region around Washington, D.C. Itâs difficult to convey what the models are projecting without appearing to sensationalize the event, but here goes: there is every indication that snow totals on the order of two feet are quite possible across parts of the greater D.C./Baltimore area, with the potential for almost as much in Philadelphia and perhaps a foot toward New York City. Anything over 20 inches at Washington National Airport would be the greatest snowfall for D.C.'s official reporting station in almost a century.

Snow is ok for a few days but I will pass on ice.
Yes, In Philadelphia burbs we had 37 inches on back porch in blizzard of 96’. Had son dig out the weber...we grilled out that night. Now in sunny albeit cold in Florida. I DO NOT miss PA.
well, technically, snow is water and if it's stuck in the trees and up on rooftops, we would, for the most part, be under water...
Boots? Check. Parka? Check. Shovel? Check. Four wheel drive? Check. Cross country skis? Nope.
Maybe next year.
Models this AM trending north, I think more a Philly\Baltimore storm than DC. Will DC get snow but 18”+ nah.... The models have the center of the low over NoVa, not really a historical precedent for that, more a model fantasy. Topography and historical trend says center of low over Deep Creek, Maryland into West Va. Don’t mean to piss on your parade those of you in DC waiting for a historical storm, but you aren’t getting one. Now Balitomre/Philly, different story
Great.
On our 0600 conf call this morning they were talking about canceling 80% of our IAD flights on Friday..
We got about 4 inches here in Madison county..
It will do just that. It will be pulling moisture from the warmer temp areas in the South. There is a rather large low pressure area moving up from the South to join the cold front you just experienced.
The only 'lucky' places will be in the areas of MA around Boston...depending on how it tracks...North or East.
Bad as the blizzard of 1885? 1886? 1888? 1889? 1899? All before glo-bull warming!
Unless you have X-C skied or skied B4, snowshoes are a more practical choice.
It’s hard to carry wood in the house w/ X-C skis on ...the new snowshoes with light alum frames are super. Both can give you a good workout, if that is a goal.
National Weather Service has just issued Blizzard Watch for DC, Balt and Northern VA.
And kitties with runny noses.
January 30-31, 1966: A blizzard struck Washington and the
Northeast US. One to two feet of snow covered a large part of
Virginia and Maryland: Fredericksburg - 15.5 inches;
Manassas - 13 inches; Washington - 14 inches (added to a
previous snow, the depth on the ground came to 20 inches); and
Baltimore - 12 inches. Intense blowing and drifting snow
continued and kept roads closed for several more days
crippling transportation lines and causing a food shortage and
rationing.

I remember that storm. I grew up on the other side of DC. Lived on a nice sloping street, good for sleds, bikes, skateboards.
Where is Gore?
My camping trip this weekend near Hagerstown, MD is looking pretty unlikely. Bummer. I hate to have to cancel a sledding camp because of too much snow. Were not worried about it once we get there, it’s getting there that’s the concern.
We’re ‘’braced’’? I didn’t know we were braced. No one told me I was braced.
Stop you hemming and hawing, and go buy your milk and bread.
I will, I will. Just as soon as I stop pussy footing around.
That storm isn’t the one they’re talking about. Your 3” snow storm is on the east coast NOW, and not producing much more here than it did in SW Ill.
Friday’s predicted storm is predicted to be a Nor’easter. You won’t see a thing. What we will see remains to be seen.
