“War is the remedy our enemies have chosen, and I say give them all the war they want.” Gen. W. T. Sherman.

The Civil War was fought in order to nullify the Declaration of Independence, which says that the right to secede from a political entity is a natural right.

Suck it. America won. The democrat Rebels lost. The plantation owners ran that "country", and they wanted an aristocracy along the lines of England. They were haughty, arrogant, and thought they couldn't be touched.

Generals Sherman, Grant, and Thomas showed the Rebels otherwise.

P.S. the Confederacy was NOT some Jeffersonian democracy...it was what was the 19th Century version of a Police state, with the Home Guard exercising tyrannical rule over the local folks. The Gestapo and NKVD took notes.

Andersonville.
“When the War ended, Captain Henry Wirz, the prison’s commandant, was arrested and charged with conspiring with high Confederate officials to “impair and injure the health and destroy the lives…of Federal prisoners” and “murder in violation of the laws of war.” Such a conspiracy never existed, but public anger and indignation throughout the North over the conditions at Andersonville demanded appeasement. Tried and found guilty by a military tribunal, Wirz was hanged in Washington, D.C., on November 10, 1865. Wirz was the only person executed for war crimes during the Civil War.”

Ya’ll come on down to Vicksburg, to the national park there. Wander among the graves at the National Cemetery. Then go gamble your sorry money at the casinos there on the river. The African-Americans there in Vicksburg will surely treat you northerners as the conquering army that broke all their chains. Bet you that.
There’s a couple of you guys that ought to be reading the Southern Poverty law Center’s newsletter instead of FR. And before you think you have me figured out, I have a ancestor that served under grant and was named governor over a territory. A miserable war, a test of America. But not the test that we are in now.
