The John Wayne film I’m most keen on seeing is “Girls Demand Excitement” (1931), a college comedy-drama, which features Virginia Cherrill (Chaplin’s leading lady in City Lights) and Marguerite Churchill, Wayne’s leading lady in “The Big Trail,” as well as the wife of cowboy star George O’Brien.
Thank you!
Buzz was on Saipan when my Dad's ship stopped by to pick up supplies and the Capt actually gave my Dad 24hrs shore leave to see his brother
i even have a clipping from the local paper saying same
by the grace of God they both came home
Not The Duke’s best, but a good war flick, and a good part for William Frawley too (Fred of Fred and Ethel...). Really dating myself ....
How old was John Wayne in 1942? He did not serve in the military like so many other stars, eg Douglas Fairbanks jr or Jimmy Stewart. Any ideas?.
38 in 1942. His wiki page makes no mention on WW 2. He was already married.
Jimmy Stewart enlisted but originally was rejected due to lack of weight. Eventually went in as a private but quickly rose throught the ranks. He already had a commercial pilots license.
Correction 35 in 1942. As soon as I posted I realized my math was wrong.
Either John Ford gave the Duke a lot of crap about not serving.
Interesting. Clark Gable was about the same age and was in the Army Air Corps.
