The National Transportation Safety Board wants to decrease the legal driving limit to one drink, lowering the legal limit on blood-alcohol content to 0.05 âor even lower.â
The agency released its âmost wanted listâ on Wednesday, a laundry list of policies it would like implemented nationally. The list includes recommendations to reduce the current 0.08 blood alcohol content limit and outlaw all cell phone use while driving, even hands-free technology.

I hate to be right....I told people that with MADD, insurers and political cronies running the show that BAC limits would become untethered from science and become another financial thumbscrew.
I know of counties banning cab services past 11:00 at night. That way drunks can’t call after leaving the bar and they can make more money off of DUIs.
It’s become a racket and less about saving lives.
How about a word tax on politicians. They pay $10 for every word they say.
While technically they have no jurisdiction, they own the purse. If states don't "willingly comply", they'll jus shut off highway funding. That's how the 21 year old drinking age became nationwide.
As could bread. Or a banana. Or many other foods.
You forgot the biggest benefactors: NSURANCE COMPANIES! That's why they buy towns full loaded "DUI Enforcement Units" all the time.

The feds are masters at fiscal extortion. States’ should stop sending them money...keep the federal gas tax, etc.
In the future a DUI would indicate a psychological problem that triggers a ban on owning a gun.
I was interpreting for a deaf client at a DUI class last week and the class cost $190.00 and the cost to get your driver’s license reinstated is $175.00. Then the bastards (State of MS) required all attending the class to fill out a 94 question questionare for “statistic” purposes.
The form is required to get the certificate for passing the class. If this is just for Statistic purposes then why the hell do they ask for people’s: name, address, SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, annual income, etc. Not to mention all the bullshit questions such as: “have you ever felt that you took advantage of someone?”, “have you ever felt suicidal?” etc. etc.

Would “one drink” be communion for a Catholic, as well?
Fascist Bastards are Fascist.
If you double dipped :) or more seriously are a server and need to drink the excess.
We could save many lives if we mandated that every person in every vehicle must wear a NASCAR safety helmet.
We could save countless lives and lots of gasoline if we reduced the maximum speed limit nationwide to 35 MPH.
Head on collisions and associated deaths could be virtually eliminated if we took the common sense step of requiring a center median on every street, road and highway in America.
Of course, we could also combine the suggestions above with mandatory public transportation and save even move lives by banning private vehicles. Only highly skilled public union employees would be allowed to drive.
Wow, being a progressive is easy...
States have no means to do that. The federal tax is assessed and imposed at the refinery, before distribution. The refiner pays it directly to the feds.
I never drink more than one at a time.
“Next, a ban on changing radio stations while driving.”
That’s crazy talk. There should only be one station. State-sponsored. Listening is mandatory.
It’s terrifying. Once everyone is a criminal the government can do whatever it wants to you - this was Stalin’s core principle.
Ayn Rand nailed it (and I’m not even a big fan of hers’)
“Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted- and you create a nation of law-breakers -and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”
I would be shocked if they actually made this into law. It woud put bars and restaurants out of business. The states would also lose tax revenue. Non compliance to this law would be huge. Most people can handle two drinks and drive.
