I have never watched more than 10 minutes of Star Trek but loved Galaxy Quest with Alan Rickman in it and blond Signoriny Weaver showing tit. What a great movie. About the only spoof movie I like

Also Tim Allen in it.

But the actor had been a big-screen staple since first shooting to global acclaim in 1988, when he starred as Hans Gruber, Bruce Willis’s sardonic, dastardly adversary in Die Hard – a part he was offered two days after arriving in Los Angeles, aged 41.

Gruber was the first of three memorable baddies played by Rickman: he was an outrageous sheriff of Nottingham in 1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, as well as a terrifying Rasputin in an acclaimed 1995 HBO film.

Alan Rickman was loony left all the way but a great actor. The guy was probably an atheist but rest in peace anyway!!:)

That sucks. One of the great British character actors. He did the whole spectrum from Hans in “Die Hard” to Colonel Brandon in “Sense and Sensibility”.

He was on screen for the briefest of moments in 1982's Smiley's People opposite Alec Guinness. That may have been his first screen credit.

Me and the wife watched a movie on HBO last week with Rickman and Kate Winslet. She was a landscape gardener in 1700s France and Rickman was King. Can't recall the name of the movie but Rickman's acting was enjoyable as always. RIP Mr. Rickman.

Thanks for the ping!! Alan Rickman is my favorite actor [next to Bowie]. Can’t believe he’s gone too. What a week.

It may be obscure, but my favorite Rickman line comes from Sense and Sensibility. Two words:

“Command me.”

Just the way he says it, makes you forget it’s a movie and think it’s real. Colonel Brandon would do ANYTHING to save the young lady he loves. Or so, in that moment, you truly and with all your heart believe. (The screenplay writers were geniuses; that line never appears in the book.)

So sad.

Btw, Arthur, please expect a LONG overdue PM later on today. Sorry for the lag!

RE:”WTH is going in with all the “that guy types dying off in droves?”

Most seem to be cancer.

Rickman was classic in Die Hard as the bad European capitalist terrorist.

‘Dr. Lazarus on Galaxy Quest.’

“Just like mother used to make.”

He could be so funny when he wanted to be.
