Ever notice how they rarely have photos of the actual find? Paleontology is a very “interpretive” science, so the appearance of fossils is often missing a large percentage of the remains of the organism and the “scientists” have to interpret and extrapolate, often from fragmentary evidence. The theory of evolution heavily relies on these methods.

There were crocs this large, very recently, as far a geological time. Photo taken in 1957. 28 foot croc shot.

Sure, but over the past 150+ years many tens of thousands of such examples have been found & analyzed.
Each new fossil fills in another piece of the puzzle, from which the larger picture takes clearer & clearer shape.
