RGIII is the only one responsible for his situation. He refused to stay in the pocket and he was the one that insisted on playing before his knee was healed. He couldn’t learn the system which ended up causing his injuries. His mouth caused the fans to dislike him. Good riddance. HTTR
Actually, there were three 5-7 teams this year. Nebraska (and one other — Minnesota?) won their bowl games and still ended up with losing records.
That would have precluded the NY Giants (9-7) post-season run that concluded with a better-than-perfect defeat of the Patriots (19-0) in the Super Bowl. Include the division champs.
I think about how little the “talking heads” on TV really know about football. (cough) Mel Kiper Jr. (cough) (cough).
In 1998, Kiper told the Colts that they should pick Ryan Leaf. He was the most athletic and strongest armed QB in the draft. The Colts showed callous disregard to his knowledgeable advice and picked some Manning guy instead. A little over a decade later Kiper was touting RG3 and how the Colts should draft him. Again the Colts disregarded his expert advice and took Andrew Luck.
Luck got pounded this year behind a crappy O-line. But it’s been crappy the whole time he’s been a Colt. With RG3 it would have been a disaster.
I always wonder on these players that teams mortgage their future to get how much better they would have been on a team that’s not stupid. No player is worth 6 picks, and with those extra picks they could have gotten him somebody to throw to, and improved the line, and improved the defense. It’s hard to be a good QB on a team that’s clearly missing pieces.
I think Aaron Rodger’s success yesterday was more of an indictment of how crappy the NFC East really was. Green Bay looked awful the last half of the season, and I question whether that turned around yesterday. The last time the Pack played the Cards a few weeks ago, it didn’t go so well for the Cheeseheads.
Similar to how KC’s dismemberment of Houston didn’t tell me a lot about KC. I knew the AFC South sucked as bad or worse than the NFC East.
The Texans and the Redskins wouldn’t have been close to the playoffs if they been in any division other than the two they were in.
The #1 way to make money in this world is to make other people money. The NFL hauls down $5 billion a year in TV revenue alone, being part of that lines one up to make some cash.
That doesn’t happen as much as these inferior teams getting in over better teams. No system is going to be perfect, but it would stop most of this mess. A better method may be to pick the top 4 teams with the best records from each league to be in the playoffs.
They’ll be passing out participation trophies next...
I loved the commercial yesterday where the father removes the “Participant” from the trophy and writes “Champion” after remarking how they got the same trophy that all of the other teams they beat got.
Interestingly, I think Robert Griffin III would actually thrive with the Cowboys. He’s actually a pretty smart player and now with a really effective offensive line to protect him, RG III will finally be able to learn to be a decent quarterback for a change.

I agree. His speed and agility were his core strengths as a QB. Those appear to be largely gone.
Jerry Jones, should no way in hell sign either RG III, or Johnny Manziel.
RG3 I'd consider more of an injury bust that wasn't all his fault. At least he took a team to the playoffs.
I'm a Spartan, so I'm glad to see Kirk Cousins take the next step. I'm surprised he lasted to the 4th round.
There is truth in what you say. BUT...
The Vikings held the feared Sea Hawk offense to just one touchdown and one field goal and, in the end, were poised to put an unanswerable field goal on the scoreboard and win the game. And, I’ve got to admit, that Russell Wilson’s miraculous recovery and completed forward pass after that botched snap was, in my unexpert opinion, the play of the game.
Then the Vikings shot themselves in the foot. All. By. Themselves.
I’ve come late to football so it was just a disappointing end to a hard fought game to me.
On the other hand, my boss is a lifelong Vikings fan (as in born and raised in the state). His entire family (four sons) are lifelong Vikings fans. Man, was he blue today. Had absolutely no charitable words for Mr. Walsh either.
(Although he did mellow a little bit during the day and just wanted to punch the errant kicker in the nose by quitting time this afternoon. No, he won’t become more forgiving about it tomorrow but he will be getting back to his much more cheerful self.)
Dallas should try for either Paxton Lynch of Memphis or Dak Prescott of Mississippi State. As a Cowboys fan, I’d be happy with either one.
I am also a Spartan. This is the first time I have ever rooted for the Deadskins and I really want Cousins to succeed.
I don't follow the NFL all that much so I really wonder where Connor Cook will go and how high in the Draft. I want him to become a great NFL quarterback.

One of my fellow office workers reported the Sea Hawks QB Russell Wilson acknowledged that his team did not “win” the game when asked about it by a reporter during the post-game press interviews. If true, it just increases my respect for an already great QB.
He could learn from Michael Vick who eventually became a dependable backup QB.
And don’t forget - the Packers picked Tony Mandarich while Barry Sanders was still available.
