The Twilight Zone Marathon

I'm watching the TZ marathon on SyFy. The current episode, "A Most Unusual Camera" is from 1960 and looks like it was shot on videotape. Did they do that back then? Looks like a cheesy soap opera.

Jim Davis did have an odd career. He started solidly with a big “A” film, but within a few years, he was in some really, really low-budget junk. Got the minor “Stories of the Century” and the “Rescue 8” tv-series, but then stayed mired somewhat in villain roles in lots of westerns (and he was admittedly really good as a villain). Finally, at the end of his career, he got the star status in a hit show with “Dallas,” but then died off before he could really reap the benefits. As for Gulager, he’s a real trip. Funny, eccentric guy, who was always fascinating to watch. He’s still around, got to talk to him a few years ago.

I love the Ziv shows. Both for the on-location filming, as well as their sheer unpretentiousness. The epitome of no-nonsense narratives.

I remember purposely tuning in to watch Gulager in the Tall Man. Always thought good things would come from him after that show. They really never did, that was his zenith.

All but a handful were shot on film 5 or 6 episodes). A Kind of Stopwatch was shot on film. I have the entire set on Blu-Ray. They look great (aside from the taped ones which still look crappy).

Yes, a lot of the old Twilight Zone episodes look like that.

Yes but more trains run on New Haven line and I can stay on back roads the whole way.

Yes, that's true; the line that goes to Dabury doesn't run all that many trains.

OTOH, the Danbury station has a cute railroad museum and it's featured in Hitcock's "STRANGERS ON A TRAIN".

Not every episode is a winner. Seems like every time I run into the marathon, I encounter that irritatingly dopey “Mr. Dingle, the Strong” episode.

Wow, it's been years since I saw TZ episode that I had never seen before. I read your comment earlier today and didn't recognize it. Just stumbled on it a few mins ago and confirmed that it was a new episode for me. You're correct. What a silly episode. Pretty embarrassing actually.

And coincidentally, there was another question about the use of kinetoscope in filming a handful of episodes. The one I remembered was the next episode on SyFy Channel, the one with the guy in a retirement home with a radio that takes him back to the 30s and 40s. The title is "Static", and one of my favorites.

I wouldn’t mind it if The Lateness of the Hour got permanently lost.

Yeah, straight to the point scripts. Quick on the action. Kind of cheesy but entertaining.

I’m a Danburian, of yesteryear, in my day, we’d cross the state line, and take the train from Brewster. More trains, no changing, and it cost less, because the train didn’t cross the state line (tariff was added to the fare).

I used to love the train, I even turned down a ride to Milford from Danbury, to get my car out of the shop, when it krapped out, down there. I don’t know anyone else that took that route, by train (I’m sure there were).

Thanks, and Happy New Year ! Still 2015 here, in the West ;)
